2.8 guy 403
Well i got the j clip pliers from 14 acre a few weeks since and set to work in the back yard knocking up a few trap, The first one i made was a mink trap out of some inch by inch, i found the clips easy to form and had a good strong grip The next idea was some larger traps using old fencing i was limited to 4 foot in length but got them 20 inches tall 18 inches wide I set about making them using a drop down hinged door the first traps door was made from some strong plastic stuff they make silo's from very strong and i thought the captee wont be able to pull it open the next trap i used the steel mesh but made a one way clip to secure the door after its shut a simple lock if you like the foot plates are raised off the ground on a bevel in the mesh and a good thick cable is used to make the conection to the door i used push bike brake cable but found the weight of the door slightly kinked the cable and made it grip so a fair bit of effort was needed to trigger it, the hand brake cable snapped on the car so after replacing it i used the old one its much thicker and has plastic coating on inner and outer so slides much better resulting in a much lighter trigger force In hinde sight gilertine style doors may have been better giving the trap is 4 foot but ill test them and see if its going to be a problem heres a few pics atb 2.8 Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
You made good use of the kink in the mesh to create a fix for your plate - I like that idea Traps look good - get them out and start catching - I have not seen any made from that type of mesh so it will be interesting to hear how they perform I have found that it is worth chucking in a shovelful of earth/leaf mold etc on the floor so that they aren't walking onto mesh too OTC Edited April 7, 2013 by OldTrapCollector Quote Link to post

OldTrapCollector 377
Get one side of the trap against a stock fence so the fox cannot walk around it too - that helps OTC Quote Link to post
