Lurchers With Docked Tails

Recommended Posts

As most know I rescued a bull x bitch from scum and her tail had to be removed just wondering if any lads know of any dogs with docked tails and how they worked because I'd like to get this bitch working once she's in fine form and healthy enough  thanks

Your wee jukel (if given plenty of opportunity) will no doubt adapt its running style to any problems.

Practice, practice, practice....

Not speed machines.... but run fine nonetheless

It's probably not going to turn quite as well as a dog with a full tail maybe, but who cares, the poor thing deserves to have it's fun, and if the best it can manage is a bit of ferreting, and spinning over the odd bits and bobs on the lamp, and out mooching, then that's fecking fantastic, seeing where it came from.

Well done to you for giving her a go mate, she may just surprise you, she certainly has some inner fire, to have come through what she did. She might just surprise you.

Ofcourse you cant compare a running dog to lets say a boxer dog.....

BUT

Boxers have docked tails and run and turn fine.... im sure a few would have even caught the odd rabbit or two

Even if the dog cant catch and rabbit.... i bet you will have great pleasure in watching it try

If we were talking about a top coursing dog then i don't think it would run the same at all. Turning would be affected a lot.

However as others have said. It should adapt its running style and it may never make a world beater but I'm sure as hell she will catch bunnys and who knows what else.

Fair play for taking her on and all the best.

My Doberman bitch is docked and she's the old type, athletic and racey, not the fat pet type. She can run and turn really well. She isn't as fast as my lurcher bitch but she's never been properly fit. She looses a bit on the turn but she has caught rabbits on the lamp when I've took her out the odd time. And hammered fox Preban.

I knew a deer hound cross that had to have its tail removed, still ran well.

As you know, she would be better off with her tail, but it wont slow her down

or make her turn like a bus. It will only affect her a little bit on the turn.
