Phil Lloyd 10,738
Don't know the 'In's and outs ' of canine physicality,...but,..with mouching type curs,..I always hark back to what might occur in the wild.. Wherebye,..you get it sorted,. or go fecking hungry Your wee jukel (if given plenty of opportunity) will no doubt adapt its running style to any problems. Practice, practice, practice.... B.P.R 2,798
Again, not an expert..... But all the dogs out there whos tails are docked run fine.... boxers, rotweilers, terriers etc.... Not speed machines.... but run fine nonetheless Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
The dog will soon get used to it mate get her fit and build her confidence from there. Atb Quote Link to post
lowry 48
tail all part of the spine lad and all part of the balance and make up of a balanced running dog.. plenty entire running dogs out there without giving yourself problems you dont need.. and no way can you compare terriers and other docked breeds with running dogs.. just my opinion mind.. 1 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
You get three legged dogs that can catch bunnys. It's probably not going to turn quite as well as a dog with a full tail maybe, but who cares, the poor thing deserves to have it's fun, and if the best it can manage is a bit of ferreting, and spinning over the odd bits and bobs on the lamp, and out mooching, then that's fecking fantastic, seeing where it came from. Well done to you for giving her a go mate, she may just surprise you, she certainly has some inner fire, to have come through what she did. She might just surprise you. 6 Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
Ofcourse you cant compare a running dog to lets say a boxer dog..... BUT Boxers have docked tails and run and turn fine.... im sure a few would have even caught the odd rabbit or two Even if the dog cant catch and rabbit.... i bet you will have great pleasure in watching it try Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
If we were talking about a top coursing dog then i don't think it would run the same at all. Turning would be affected a lot. However as others have said. It should adapt its running style and it may never make a world beater but I'm sure as hell she will catch bunnys and who knows what else. Fair play for taking her on and all the best. My Doberman bitch is docked and she's the old type, athletic and racey, not the fat pet type. She can run and turn really well. She isn't as fast as my lurcher bitch but she's never been properly fit. She looses a bit on the turn but she has caught rabbits on the lamp when I've took her out the odd time. And hammered fox Preban. Atb. Gaz. Quote Link to post
lurchers4life 103
My mate got a whipet x and thats got its tail docked and thats got no problem catching bunnies its one of the best ferreting dogs ive seen atb l4l Quote Link to post
Paid 935
I knew a deer hound cross that had to have its tail removed, still ran well. As you know, she would be better off with her tail, but it wont slow her down or make her turn like a bus. It will only affect her a little bit on the turn. Quote Link to post
RossM 8,121
The bitch will adapt to life without the tail, it will find a style that suits her and she will be just fine, Quote Link to post
