ALRIGHT TROOP,S

AFTER READING A FEW TOPICS ABOUT WHIPPETS BEING TOO SMALL TO TACKLE FOX.

WHY NOT TRY AN EX OVER THE HILL RACER ABOUT 3/4 YRS OLD.

OLD GREWS ARE MAYBE NOT FAST ENOUGH FOR THE CLOCK BUT THEY CAN BE TREMENDOUS FOX /DEER DOG,S ENTERED PROPERLY AND SLOWLY ONTO NOT AS AGILE GAME AS HARTLY,S.

I WAS GIVEN A BITCH WHO COULDNT DO THE CLOCK ABOUT TEN YRS AGO.

2YRS OLD AND SHE WOULD GO THROUGH A BRICK WALL TO GET TO FOX.

ALL IT COST ME WAS ROOM AND BOARD AND A YEAR DOWN THE LINE WHEN SHE SUPPLED UP SHE,D LIFT MORE FOX THAN MY LURCHER,S AND PUT BREATHTAKING CHASES AT ANYTHING THAT MOVED WITH 500PCNT COMMITMENT DO OR DIE /BRING IT ON MENTALITY..

GREAT FUN FOR FREE AND WHEN YOU GET THEM THERE BIDDABLE AND PRETTY SAVY.

JUST KEEP THEM FIT AND OFF THE LEAD THEY LEARN FAST .

AND HAVE GREAT DRIVE.

WORTH AGO ONCE IN YOUR LIFE.

ALSO FRINGE BENEFIT,S.

BREEDING TO YOUR NO1.

One of the best fox dogs I ever had was an ex-flapping greyhound bitch...got her to breed lurchers with many years ago...she never ever came in season but she certainly provided me with an immense amount of fun she killed the first fox she ever ran and took deer in her stride...DOWNSIDE and there's always one isn't there...she also killed terriers, sheep, goats, chickens, ran cattle and horses...anything that moved old Lassie thought it was fair game....

I've wanted a x racer for a few years more so since I started work in a race kennels.I'm just wanting till a nice steady one goes lame then I'll try one :)

So, do you reckon one with a history of lameness would be preferable to one which was sound but just 'a bit slow' to make it on the track?

no not at all mate. But all the dogs at my kennels have made the track like. If I was around a dog that wasn't fast enough for the track that would of course be the better choice.

When I say lame I mean fixable lame for example there's a dog there now with a sprained hock she will run again but age isn't on her side (she's 3) and she was never really anygood anyway so she's been retired. She would be a perfect choice but she's a headcase lol and I want a steady one atb

The red bitch in the pic retired early and took a far bit of stuff for a friend who took her, mainly to breed, ended up a pretty good worker. Kept a couple back myself and had some fun though recon one started as a pup and reared like a worker would be better.

I wouldnt want to deal with the stocktraining issues and recall issues many ex track dogs tend to come with as well as other quirks, had ex racers in the past and they werent for me... However if a reasonably priced pup became available i would consider it

i have had a couple of ex failed racers and did a bit with them

they were both good dogs but the better one was only 18 months when i got her so i think that helped with her training.

i would agree that a pup would probably train up pretty good

the only problem i had was with injuries due i think to them being too fast and not great at stopping for obsticles

they were easy dogs to life with and i wouldn,t rule one out again
