skycat 6,174
I hate to ask this, but do you think that the dog may be suffering from some kind of stress related issues? What is his temperament like in general?
mushroom 13,268
I hate to ask this, but do you think that the dog may be suffering from some kind of stress related issues? What is his temperament like in general? Trev is so laid back he's vertical We've been through everything like that.. Me and the mrs don't argue, the worst physical punishment he's ever had is a knock on the nose with two fingers, he has two beds in the house which he has free reign to choose so private space isn't an issue although the bed in the office is used most as he prefers to be with me or the mrs, food/water is always there, several walks a day, plays with other dogs in the park. I would say the most stressful situation he has here is the other little shitelickers that bark at him in the street which tbh he just ignores.

socks 32,253
The pancreas needs to have a rest mate they will put the dog on a drip to keep it hydrated and then it needs to go on a low fat diet ... I had a German shepherd with this about 15 years ago ... The dog was fine after a few months but he wasn't a working dog so to speak he was a pet come house guard ... I don't know how it would effect a running dog ...........

More than likely fuuck his career up knowing my luck Frankly either we find out and fix the issue, try him working and if it fails see he can live as a pet (just with an added killer instinct) If there's no solution to the issue then it's the big field in the sky doesn't seem fair but life isn't fair
mushroom 13,268
Update. Went to the vet's this morning the first set of results from the last blood test showed that again there is no blood infection, parasites etc. Globulin, red cell, white cell count all levels normal just waiting for the nutrient absorption results now. His pancreas is slightly enlarged but again the vet said nothing to worry about, Socks mate it ain't pancreatitis but good call. So far now I'm feeding carbs, minerals, vitamins liquidised through a syringe into his mouth every 2 hours (1litre a day of the mix) plus water and feeding mince seperately 4 times a day (1/2 kilo per day). So far this has stopped the weight loss and he has even gained a little but he is still lethargic. At this point any and all suggestions for feeding, ways to put on weight, possible causes gratefully accepted. Shroom.

skycat 6,174
Is the dog insured? If so, ask for a referral to the Animal Health Trust. They specialise in all sorts of weird problems> when one of my bitches had meningitis as a pup my vets had never seen it before, but the AHT said it wasn't that uncommon in large breed young dogs. They have world experts on all sorts at that place: well worth seeing if they can get to the bottom of it. Having said that, my pup wasn't insured, and cost me over a grand nearly 17 years ago , but she was worth every penny as she went on to have a long and happy life and produced some decent offspring. http://www.aht.org.uk/cms-display/sa.html
