My ridgeback was similar 4 or 5 years ago, wasn't as energetic off food etc. Tests showed up nothing but tried chicken and rice and rich thick gravy and eventually got back to normal after a week or so.

Vet who was excellent and didnt put the arm with the bill said the dog could be just erring on the side of caution and trying to rid himself of whatever was upsetting him and just eating the minimum.

How much weight did he lose and how long did it go on for? Was he drinking aswell or off water too??

Have they tested for poisoning? Maybe long term low level poison. I know that what I'm about to say can't be what your dog has, but I once heard of some dogs that had lead poisoning after licking their kennels which had been painted with old pain containing lead. Lead poisoning leads to fear of bright lights and nervousness and ultimately convulsions.

I just wondered if there was any way he could have been in contact with something that has reached toxic levels in his body, over a period of time. I take it they've tested for various cancers and failure to absorb certain nutrients?

I'm going to the vets right now to test the nutrient absorbtion  he had nothing at all to eat yesterday and this morning he had the "empty" blood tests I fed him just over two hours ago and I'm going now as I said for the second blood test, so it's a waiting game now for the results.

Cheers well just had him to the vet's for the blood t be taken there was another vet there who has already looked over the results of previous tests etc and just gave him a quick check over.

Verdict = 4 vet's now confused about what the fec is going on with him :wallbash:

Took him home and gave him 3 tins of sardines in olive oil he ate them in seconds, fook knows what his issue is, bloody stressful though.

In heat near by?

Now that's something.....

He does constantly lick piss and froth at the mouth but I stopped him doing it about 1 week after he became ill.

Worth considering especially if he's shown those signs, chapping at the bit etc. get him to the vets get his nik naks cut off
