Need Advice Dog Is Very Unwell - Update

Recommended Posts

Well some of you may know Trev has been a bit ill recently. I've had him to the vet's God knows how many times, spent a small fortune on tests, visits etc.

He is basically not eating, hasn't been properly for 3 to four weeks now. The first vet took piiss and poo samples sent away for tests they came back negative, X-ray showed that he was a bit constipated so we delt with that but he was still not eating. Had him to a different vets who gave him a full body ultrasound, blood work (no parasites, viruses, bacteria - nothing), shiit load more tests stil everything came back normal no constipation infact the opposite he was totally empty. Two things the ultrasound did show was that he had what the vet said signs of mild gastroenteritis and his pancreas and spleen were slightly larger than normal but they said this could be to do with his body reacting and wasn't anything to worry about. So we've been treating the Gastro and it's come to the point where I'm feeding him his food liquidised and water through a syringe.

He has energy but more like a feckin 30 year old British bulldog, he does go on short walks at the mo, his shiit is soft and gooey and considering he doesn't drink a lot he is peeing what seems to be a bit. In these three weeks he's lost between 3 - 4 kilos I'm at the end of my tether and wonered if anyone on here might of had a similar thing or maybe have a bit of knowledge to point me in the right direction. he's just had more tests today and he has to go back to the vet's in 2 hours for more tests to see how his digestion is functioning (I fed him after the first tests this morning)

Any help advice greatly appreciated.

Shroom.

fookin hell , what can you say, you done the best for him by sound of it.Had lots of good tests and (still) no change in him. The only thing i can think of his change is diet, give chicken _+ boiled rice thats, nice steady on there belly. One thing you good do but it wouldnt be cheep , is have (blood transfusion) that might get what it is out of his body. But if nothing changes and you done your best, which by the sound of it you have, maybe he might be better of out of it,? because what life as he got like this .

Strong words them Bobby mate I will do the right thing soon as I know when it's time  now isn't the time he's being kept healthy/alive by me and the mrs feeding and watering him extra with a syringe and truthfully the money don't bother me I want to know what is wrong with him so I am aware in the future ;) I do agree though if it comes to needing medicine to keep him alive I will.

Baw he'll eat a bit of chicken and then turn his nose up, caught the fuccker eating a plate of tatty croquets the other day so he does have appetite and is hungry just won't eat enough.

My ridgeback was similar 4 or 5 years ago, wasn't as energetic off food etc. Tests showed up nothing but tried chicken and rice and rich thick gravy and eventually got back to normal after a week or so.

Vet who was excellent and didnt put the arm with the bill said the dog could be just erring on the side of caution and trying to rid himself of whatever was upsetting him and just eating the minimum.

Sounds like the vets are doing their best to find out what is going on.

The 2 things I tend to look at are

1) is the dog loosing weight to the point he looks like an RSPCA case, and you are worried about people seeing the condition of him

2) is the dog sleeping and mooching around the house looking comfortable, or is he distressed.

if he is stealing food, I wouldn't worry that much about the appetite

 You didn't come across as a cnut to me mate ;)

This is the strange thing he is showing absolutley no sign of pain the only meds he is having is mild antibiotics and Omeprazol for the gastro.

Don't know what to say to you mate - have you looked into some kind of food allergy ?

All the best bud, hope it works out for you.

Blood tests came back negative on food allergies

Looks more supermodel than anorexic but is lethargic

Sleeps fine

No blood in the poo, the piss test showed he had +1 for blood which I'm told is nothing to be concerned about.
