Ludwig 0
Depends on raw or dried food and the time of year; if it is cold then, raw rabbit/squirrel until they finish eating it (normally 2 days for 4 ferrets) but in the summer they are often on dried which I top up every evening, If I am working them then I always give them extra the day before as I find they lay up less on kills. stubby 175
i keep a bowl of dried down 24/7 then feed raw every evening Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
I feed whole carcasses in the evening, dusk, if i can get hold of them and dry as a substitute only. I dont feen my ferts before i take them working, only the evening before, as i think from experince, it makes them just that wee bit keener. Frank. Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
I feed mine once at night, then remove the carcass first thing int morn ! unlike frank i do like to feed my ferrets before working them as i wouldnt like to work hard all day on an empty stomach and i think they are less likely to lye up ! but as with all aspects of hunting its each to there own and you'll find the way that suits you roll on the winter ! Hob&Jill 258
In winter I just leave the rabbit in there until they have ate it. In summer put in at night take out in morning. I just feed as normall when im working them the next day. I normally feed them some giblets when out in field too, plus bring some watered down milk for them to drink after they done a few warrens. Giro 2,648
i dont feed mine very often less poo to clean.... joke lol raw when is not there anymore and dry evey other day as i put a pint in at a time for two sml jills Quote Link to post
richie 1
i always leave a large bowl of dry food for them as i believe in free feeding and i throw in the occasional bunny as a treat.... also by free feeding them ive never had a ferret lay up... touch wood. i dont believe in starving them before hunting as no.1 its bang out of order starving them plus you never get a lay-up... " fingers crossed ". richie Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
DRIED N CAT/DOG FOOD every day but a rabbit or pheasant will take them around 2 days to munch up. Quote Link to post

jultaylor1972 2
I feed mine once at night, then remove the carcass first thing int morn ! Thats exactly what I do too, they had a large rat tonight and I try and give them a varied selection each night there's usually a little left in the morning which tells me they have eaten enough or it would all be gone? I dont have much bother with flies either as they dont tend to be around at night My fat jill has lost weight and looks much better now and they generally seem much happier little ferts. I would only feed dried food if there was absolutely no other option and at times I have been in that situation, they seem to like it ok but they guzzle gallons of water and their poo is awful to pick up! Madcowz 0
I was defrosting one of their frozen 'ready meals' yesterday in time to put it into the court in the evening when it disappeared from the outhouse Needless to say, a bit of searching turned up a partially eaten meal and two happy cats with their tummies filled with rabbit. Damn them! /Mad Quote Link to post
