hi there fella the wing butts on hens are brown whereas cocks a black , blaze well past the eye on cocksnormallly level with eye when hen also the black cap is mottled brown with a hen now when we have olderhens these can a times pass as poor cocks and vice versa .atb bunnys.

thanks, now that's sorted what about breeding ? same as breeding canaries ?

could anyone give me some advice on sexing goldfinches ? or any advice on breeding them and the difference between breeding them and breeding canaries

I prefer breeding them in a flight ,& been very successful ? now saying that ill have a rubbish year . :cray:

This is a cock bird with the red going past the eye both below ans above the eye

the wing butts are black on a cock and will be brownish on a hen.

the second does show some slightly brown feathers on the butt more clearly but it's the same bird and like i say a hen will much browner.
