Re: To Advice Thread I Put Up Yesterday.

what so you think you'll get quick bolts & there not preferable to a young dog.

running double will improve it's retrieving & that getting out there with the

dog & putting it in a position to find game is wrong or it isn't unusual for a dog

not to chase

You said you don't think ferreting is good, dog will get bored, ferret killing young etc. if you ferret regular you should know what holes to go to, what's productive. He has the whole summer to sort this out. The dog won't get bored ferreting, never had that happen yet. You then said why would a dog that won't chase during the day miraculously chase on the lamp. On the lamp you can get a lot closer to rabbits sitting out. Your focusing the dogs attention to the rabbit and not what's around so the chances are the dog will see it making it a lot easier, keep doing it with encouragement and the penny will drop. You then said running it doubled up on the lamp will cause a tug of war. I'd never run two dogs on a lamp especially a young dog, your just asking for collisions and injuries. Can't mind your other points but that's the main ones

Don`t panic,   The dog is only 10 mnths old. Many a dog has been ruined by being started a few months early, but I`ve never seen any ruined being started a few months late.   The dog will click,

Just stick with it. The penny will drop.   Get him out ferreting. Holding in nets etc. This will all bring him on.

dont slip him on rabbits that are in cover give the young dog a chance

my point was not that ferreting was a bad idea but at this time of year

he'd be likely to get lie ups & thus could be at a hole for a while,i have

seen dogs lose interest when there's no action. i to would not run dogs

doubled up as you say it's fraught with dangers & problems in the making

the retrieving was just highlighted as he'd already said he was having

problems with that.he said he'd got close to a rabbit that bolted from

a bush the dog stared to chase but stopped so i'm thinking it's close &

seen it but for what ever reason it decided to stop i don't see how being

on the lamp will change that although i will concede he'll probably get

close to more rabbits & so get more chances for the penny to drop.

so basically i was saying similar to your other post he's all summer for

it to find it's feet,so just keep putting out there in a position to let

nature take it's course & your stock breaking point is a good one.ATB

At ten month old I'm betting you show that pup an adult dog run three bunnys on a lamp an it will clickn what's the diffrence between a bunny on lamp an lure? As for ferreting its ten months its not ten weeks if it gets bored it gets bored.it'll soon forget its boredom one he has dug his bunn. Not every warren hah babys either I had six clean bolts yesterday andctwo digs an not a nest in sight. Just by reading the lads threads id say if he hascto wait til sept to enter it then it will be a long summer.; just out curiosity do all you folkds do nowt out in field with pups? My pups who know mostof the ferreting game by that age.
