My first Subaru was a 1600 cc model, (we used to put all our money from poaching into a jar at that time to pay for the bairns Christmas pressys, and this this year we also bought that car, and taxed and insured it) stopped making these ages ago, pity...

Then had a few different 1800 cc`s, all got to places that were unbelievable, more just to find good parking places, or get to less accessable places, rather than to shoot or hunt from, just have to watch for the ground clearance, and straddle trackor rutts etc. Diahatsu fourtrak, now that was better, except the early F50`S were rot boxes, but cannot fault the mechanics, at shoots we would skeet past the lardy dars with their range rovers bogged down into the mud, and pull them out :feck:

Landrovers, too heavy, uneconomical, too noisey, cold, unreliable,, ok for having left on a farm as a work horse, but if you are travelling a 100 mile + round trip get something else

The Diahatsu also saved our bacon numerous times, feds thinking we were farmers or keepers out at night, these 4x4`s dont stand out so much on country roads as did vauxhaul vivas or hillman avengers :laugh: but must admit I did like the latter two, but the viva just pipped it, could get more dogs in the boot compared with the avenger :laugh:

The series 3 land rover which they stoped making 20 year ago was noisey, cold and uneconomical. But defo not unreliable. The defender range which ive used for the last 12 year + is none of those but uneconomical which most 4x4 are! The only other make of 4x4 which can touch them for off road use is the toyota land cruisers. Land rovers have give me more fun than i can imagine and pulled me out of some very dodgy scrapes, its unbelievable where they can be parked/hid

We had an old saying, get a landrover, get a pair of overalls..it still applies :laugh:

Anyway, Im not going back down this road, heard it all, was a diesel fitter for 35 years, on trucks, buses and yes, 4 x 4`s, stick to comfort now at my age.

I had an old series 3 for the farm and that was as rough as arseholes, but I'd take a Defender anyday. I'd rather the Disco though for the gearbox for the road and the more bits and pieces inside. My mate has a Cruiser wagon GXL and it's pretty f*****g great. If I was serious and money was no object it'd have to be a Disco 3. The lads over here are pretty serious about their offroading, and by that I don't mean a muddy field, I mean proper terrain, and it seems that Nissan Patrols, Toyota Land Cruisers and to a lesser extent Land Rovers seem to be the ones to go for.

Doxhope I know the Subaru model you first had as my driving instructor had one and he loved it!

Add a flat cap n green whellies and you fit right in the countryside like a farmer :11: To be honest doxhope i think four tracks are shit and there 3 times more expensive to fix than a landy but i think were gona have to agree to disagree on this 1 mate.

Only ever shot :hunter: from a car be it landy or subaru. Wasn't fussed which really though the subaru was better suited for it IMO

Then only on stubble or tracks.

Trouble is some of the selfish greedy F#####s that came up this way drove all over the newly sopwn and youung crops. The result of this is that if you have a running dog and a motor and you so much as give a field a glance then the place is swarming with farmers, keepers and the boys in blue.

Ruined it for one and all. :censored::censored::censored::chair::ninja:

The old 1800 subaru estates in my eyes where better than the legacy...they seemed to have more ground clearance and seemed a bit more heavy duty....plus they wasnt constant four wheel drive!
