My 9yr old bitch just reared a litter.As long as she is fit and healthy there shouldn't be a problem.

Cheers , just a few people saying that she be to old ,being shes not had a litter before, etc etc , obviously any whelping could have complications, but you would say that 6 is a acceptable age? Is this something you have done ..ie bred dogs of that age , with good results, cheers for the replys .richard

the mother to my lurcher was 11 when she had her litter she didnt have a big litter though only 3 all turned out great as mine is proof lol

My bitch had first litter at 6. Ended with cesarean and loosing 3 of the 9 pups. Bitch recovered fine and looked after pups well though.

 

But was the cesarian definately age related?? what did your vet say ???

vet suggested for first litter 6 was too old. Something to do with tighter ligaments in the pelvis?? My bitch was fit/ healthy and in good nick, all surviving pups good size and healthy too.

Uncle off mine been a breeder of show types not working dogs for 30 years he would never breed off a 6 year old bitch if it was her 1st litter always says 2/3, if It was me wanting a litter of a decent bitch a wouldnt see a problem
