My mates whippet catches rabbits all on her own, rats aren't an issue either.

I think you are confused.   I don't think any one here was claiming to have found the new foxing breed.   The question was, can a whippet kill a fox single handed. The answer was, yes, some can. M

Ive had them for over 10 years and only had two that would do them regulary.. there not fox dogs and wern't bred for foxes but there is a few dogs that will do them. When i owned jake ( lord of the

Its the same thing as a single handed coyote dog. Sure they exist but finding one would be almost impossible. I aint sayin a dog may not kill a coyote by itself but there are coyotes and then there are COYOTES. A big big difference between the two of them.

The run alone will usually put a dog at a disadvantage cuz if you cant breath, you cant fight.

I was just winding you up mate, just made me laugh how you jumped in with the coment after Dan.

I would never ever pick a whippet as a fox dog, and never ever use one purposefully with any regularity, but i guess i must have just got lucky.

But come on, saying a fox will 'ruin' a whippet, f**k it up so bad etc etc. . . . . it's a bit of an over reaction. It's a fox, not a fecking wolverine.

Whippets ARE gay, and ARE possibly one of the WORST choices to tackle charlie. . . . . but some of the bigger and heavier ones, can do it without getting hospitalised, if they happen to accidentaly come across one. Jaw round throat and choke like feck.

I think you need to remember Dan, that here, our runs are not usually anything like yours, especially in this part of the world, where the fields are like postage stamps. I'd be very surprised if after most of the runs round here, a dog is out of breath when it catches.

And in general we term a single handed dog, just one that can do it on it;s own, rather than a dog that would be regularly doing it as a job.

The big difference is i guess, even a good whippet which COULD kill a fox, would probably tell you to f**k right off if you asked it to do a second the same day / night.

it only takes one mistake and you will go from proud to distraught in a momemt and the more it see`s the more chance of a mistake. that old bitch would takle anything without a thought and yes sometimes she made my head swell, but her working life didnt last long. if you keep hitting a 6 inch nail with a toffee hammer eventually the hammer will break

 You make a fair point.

And like i said, to choose one as a fox dog would make you an idiot.

But if you bush with them regular, and they like to hunt up at distance, there isn't much you can do.

The biggest problem is the legs.

It's funny because again, like the rhino/stick guy . . . . you are making it sound like a fox is much bigger than a whippet?

How small are/were your dogs out of interest, in height and weight?

I couldnt agree with you more about the "ruin" them part. A whippet will quit and the fox will trot off but they aint gonna be f****d up. Thats just silly talk.

A good whippet is the one that I'm talkin bout being hard to find. For all these blue roach backed bug eyed dog owners out there thinkin there dog gonna do a fox they need to get a f****n grip.

I agree mate, there is a difference between a dog thats 19 " and 20 + lb and a dog that is 22 " and closer to 40 lb.
