bunnyboiler 1,054
run him so he burns off more calories and any excess fat turns to muscle Fat connot turn to muscle mateif you dont have any fat then how do you build muscle the fat helps to assimilate the protein into muscle doesnt it by giving energy to exercise to build muscle unless metabolisms have changed So what you meant to say was use the excess fat to build muscle because a fat cell cannot turn into a muscle cell ATB bunny Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
Dogs will develop the musculature that suits their genetics within the context of the exercise they perform. So give sensible feed and exercise and the way they develop the body that will be the best for them. If a dog is lamping 3 times a week for a decent session and getting sensible exercise in-between it should be pretty fit, in that situation I find its more about keeping weight on the dog than losing it. Having said that going out for an hour or so with just a couple of runs doesnt really count. Its not unusual to see dogs that at first glance look muscled but on closer inspection are carrying a fair bit of fat but therere rarely working hard other than on the road or such like.. As to muscle, fat etc its simple give more calories than the dog burns and it will store them as fat, less than it needs and it will burn fat stores then muscle to make up the shortfall. A DOG OUT LAMPING 3 NGTS A/WK AND EXTRA EXERCISE YOU SHOULD BE TRYING TO KEEP THE WEIGHT ON IT. ITS ALL RIGHT RIBBING YOUR DOG TO LOOK LIKE A BELSON HORROR BUT DOES IT RUN BETTER. LEAN DOGS HAVE GOT NO RESERVES IN THE TANK. IVE SEEN LEAN DOGS KEEL OVER AFTER HEFTY RUN/NGTS LAMPING. 1 Quote Link to post
