crorider 174
There's a pedigree breeder near me with a few of them that he walks round our local nature reserve park. Wont let them off the lead and when i asked him if he ever knew of anyone that had used them in a lurcher breeding he got the raving hump with me lol! Said, "my dogs are pedigree as if id let anything compromise that" and walked off. Apparently theyre incredibly yappy and not particularly fast anyway Quote Link to post

Banter 1,751
lol, i get the general impression of these breeds are not worth bothering with then, they do look class tho i loved mine but it was useless it struggled to kill mixi rabbit lost a lota ground on a turn. was a yapper . had selective hearing . there intelligent an it was like a homing pigeon you couldnt of lost it if you tried Edited March 31, 2013 by Banter Quote Link to post
kranky 507
They're fast enough and can easily catch rabbits but they are meant to open up and they do. They work differently to our running dogs and push through scrub and cover, catching rabbits and flushing them to waiting guns. Opening up allows the hunters/shooters to know where the dog is. I've never seen a pedigree one work but they are meant to work independently, recall isn't a strong suit and hunting up is what they're meant to do. Edited to say: I have seen non ped workers and some Podengos. But never on anything other than rabbit. Edited April 1, 2013 by kranky Quote Link to post
TOMO 27,710
There's plenty of vids on YouTube of them working,,, I have put no end up over the years,,, type in podencos ,,, as we tend to call them Ibizan hounds ,, the Spanish refer them as podencos,,, Have a look out for them hunting in Lanzerote,, running on pure rock and old larva flows,,, tuff dogs with great feet,, but there used more like our hound,,, in numbers and they open up but they do catch plenty. Are the podengos the Spanish equivalent?I saw a woman walking one of these yesterday shed rescued from Spain and by Christ it could run!!!! It was wire haired a lovely animal. Quote Link to post
