Lurcher Pup

Recommended Posts

Hi all I have a Lurcher pup which was born end September 2012 the question I would like to ask is when would she be likely to come into season, and yes I am a novice to running dogs, also so would it spoil her if i had her spayed? The reason I ask is that she is kenneled with my Labrador dog pup of the same age, she is coming on great retriving ball to hand but not always giving it up strait away but its early days yet, thanks for any help in advance, Mike

It could be any time between now and September. Or later. I've known bitches come in heat at 6 months and some at 12-14 months.

Again as for regularatory, some come in every 6 months and some every 12 months.

I personally would never spay or castrate before 2 years old, so that the dog is fully matured. Those hormones are there for a reason and in my opiniona are needed for proper growth and maturity.

Vets will spay and castrate very young. Wrong in my opinion. All the best. Gaz

personally i've never had one come into season before 9 month of

age & my current bitch was over 2 when she had her 1st season

a really fit bitch may never break down as like athletes they don't

carry enough body fat & the body won't start a menstrual cycle

I had mine speyed at near 2 years old......never having shown any evidence of coming into season BUT.................under no circumstances would I have left her in the company of an entire male. You read it on here all the time...unplanned matings with daft excuses. Made no difference to her.
