Where antibiotics are concerned then prevention isn't better than cure, if you use antibiotics when they ain't needed theres a good chance that they won't work when maybe needed further along in the t

No need for antibiotics in a shallow open wound like that. Clean once with Hibiscrub, then dab on some good quality Manuka honey. Clean once a day with warm salt water to remover crusts and apply more

Chid I would say that does

Why when it's not infected , giving antibiotics williy nilly can cause bacteria to become immune to them

Is it infected or not? none of us can really tell by looking at that picure

Skycat mentioned honey which has natural anti biotics so in this case that maybe the better option than anti biotic tablets :)

Stik it on antibiotics any way salt water twice a day if it then starts to look bad take to vets

Why use antibiotics when it doesn't need them ?
it will be in the early stage of infection so why not put it on them chid dont risk it simple as that
I'd stick to making collars cause you ain't got a baldies about wounds

A vet without any doubt would prescribe anti biotic cover for that injury, would that be to make money or air on the side of caution? probably both.

What is much more damaging is not finishing the full coarse of anti biotics because all of the bacteria may not of been killed and are more resistant next time anti biotics are needed.

A dogs own saliva will help prevent infection if it can lick the wound the main reason infections start are because of a foreign body being inside the wound or in warm weather flys will transfer bacteria to the wound. either way flush the wound out with a salins solution and either let the dog keep it clean or put a barrier cream on it. antibiotics are for cases were a puncture wound is likely to harbour a bacterior or a tear is subcutanious and could have contaminants in it.

No need for antibiotics in a shallow open wound like that. Clean once with Hibiscrub, then dab on some good quality Manuka honey. Clean once a day with warm salt water to remover crusts and apply more honey: this only needs to be done on a wound that the dog cannot reach to lick itself. Just clean the wound daily using damp cotton wool, don't scrub at it or you'll damage new tissue as it is growing. Once the wound has shrunk to the size of a one pence piece you can leave it to dry up and scab, but don't pull the scab off prematurely unless you see pus oozing from around its edges, in which case start at square one all over again. Most shallow flesh wounds heal just fine like this.

unless a very serious cut where muscle has been damaged i dont think you need vets, just keep it clean has skycat as said. people get ripped of by vets i will only take my dog to a vets in a serios case its common sence how to keep a cut clean most dogs will do most the work there selfs, and i think a lot of local vets hasnt got a clue when it comes to lurchers, a friend had a dog that came over ill one day he took it to local vets they had it for 2 weeks all tests scans and anti biotics it looked like touch and go but pulled though they couldnt work out why, a bone man seen the dog 3months later and said it had broken its kneck, greyhound vets said its surprised its still here dog has made a full recovery now. it cost him 1600 for no answer and bone man cost a tenner, and bone man found cause in minutes.
