forest of dean redneck 11,669
one of the allotment tenants ,came over for a chat, and was moaning about the rabbits/rats etc. he said he had considered getting a dog, and was considering a whippet? i know nothing about whippets really so thought id ask on here lol i think he wanted to know how well they tackle rats and how easy they are to train for retrieving and stock breaking, hes a poultry keeper. pip1968 2,490
suppose they would be just like any other dog to train if you put the time and effort in,tbh ive never heard anything bad about them and they should be good on rats.the ones ive seen have been demons on them Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
Whippet x terrier sounds just the job..... Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
if you get a well bred one should be handy.........but if it was my choice a small lurcher like beddy x whippet would be my choice... Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,669
I think the whippet was thought of instead of a small lurcher as the speed needed to nail the rabbit before the hedge. Plus there is gamble of how the small Lurcher will turn out height/shape wise. Quote Link to post
bryanm45 787
There good on rats, good on bunny's, stockbreaking and retrieving is time put in by the owner. Regards Bryan. 1 Quote Link to post
romany52 313
Best ratter I ever saw was a whippet with a dash of greyhound. Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
Generally quite timid and easy to train/stock break etc. Great fun on the rabbits Quote Link to post
