The Seeker 3,048
Hi all I'd like to pick your brains I'm thinking of buying night vision optics Ns50- Ns200. Pulsar n550 etc What do people use and recommend Thanks in advance Lads and lasses The N550 is very good but still what I would class as expensive, the Spartan 410 is a Gen 1 NV rifle scope and relatively cheapie the NV world and for air rifle ranges is more than adequate (see my new air rifle set up post) If money wasn't the issue I would go for the N550 but you won't go wrong with the 410 ATB Quote Link to post
Mister Gain 1,764
I have recently purchased digital NV. Originally intended to have a go at a DIY setup, but decided not to for various reasons. The ones I decided to look at were the nite sites (ns50-ns200, snypercam and Nite eye (ne500). Viewed loads of footage on youtube for comparison. Dismissed snypercam as I would be paying for the ability to record video, which I don't intend to do. Decided to go with the Nite Eye NE500. Reason being it had 'similar' specification to the NS200, but was less than the cost of the NS50. Am well pleased with it. Suppose it all comes down to personal preference in the end, and what you want it to do. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I have a Nite SIte NS50, I have encountered some unusual phenomena when using it. Under ideal conditions it will perform at ranges far above what it says, 50 metres forget it, I was able to count straw bales in a stack at over 200! Not using any additional IR either! Unfortunately NS are pulling a fast one, they are now selling the NS50 with a Lithium battery for a lot more than the lead acid one. These batteries can be sourced cheaply from the far east (ie China), so the price rise makes no damned sense to me! The NS can also have problems with some lens coatings, it has no problems on my Hawke scopes though. It is a seriously good piece of kit and it is all you need for sub 12 air rifle ranges. I have not experienced a Nite Eye, however they are a one man band, where Nite Site is a company, with a lot more stock so you do stand a chance of getting a Nite Site if you order one! porkycrook 466
Well daytyper I have the NiteSite NS50 for over a year now and In that time the only problem I have had was the switch on top of the screen (illuminator switch) went all floppy. Contacted NiteSite over problem and was told to repack the faulty bit and return, well they must of got the bit and got onto repairing it straightaway because I was without the unit for two days. So as the man on the telly says "service service service". I was going through what you are now, I looked at the NiteHunter because at the time VerminHunterTV (Si and Davy are now very special friends)were using them in field testing for Anthony. The unit was nice and compact and honestly this was its down point, if later on it went wrong (after warranty period) there was nothing that I could change. Also what I have found out since then by using the NiteSite is that I want and need because of my eyesight is the screen forward more. On the NiteSite this can be achieved by mounting the unit further up the scope or even as I now do now, mount the screen on an aluminium tube. So really the choice is yours, yes if money no object then go for one that the armed forces use. But with the normal wallet really you have three choices Nite-Hunter, NiteSite or the green laser thingy (forgot the name at the moment). Green laser thingy was the same price bracket but you had to buy extras, so for me out of equation. Nite-Hunter v NiteSite in the normal world it comes down to these two, both camps have their followers and both will sing the praises for the one they like. But for me it came down to, a) Am I happy with all the unit in one lump (tv with dvd player integral, one goes wrong am I happy to throw a perfectly good unit away because one bit broken)?. b)Am I happy with one fixed viewing position?. Sorry for a long winded explanation daytyper but I tried to explain my choice process, I hope your happy with whatever you end up with, keep us up to date with your choice. optelic2 48
I bought my ns200 over a year ago after trying out an n550 and having an ns200 for two weeks on loan. Im still very happy with the ns200 as for me personally its a better system than the n550 as i use different rifles for different applications so dont have to worry bout rezero'ing if i swap between rifles. 1 Quote Link to post

Not quite True bud, I've the N550 and i Prefer it to the NS and nitehunter offerings as it's more natural like a scope to shoot with, Also both My Rapids have weaver rails so no Messing about re-zeroing with the Day scopes off in seconds and changed over and the only difference between My two rapids is the Calibre .177 & .25 so a quick scroll on the side wheel menu and i've changed both axis Y= and X= which is your Up and down on Your reticle which is written down for both cals, also i like the option of changing reticle types which is a bonus. atvb Daz 7. 1 Quote Link to post
Mister Gain 1,764
secretagentmole, I experienced no problem at all ordering and receiving my NE500, in under 48 hours from order to delivery. I emailed them a couple of times and received replies within a couple of hours, then decided to purchase a spare battery and received that within 24 hours.. Seems a pretty good service to me. Roger, I note you don't even consider the Nite Eye NE500 as an option despite it being cheaper, any reason? Quote Link to post

If your search brought you to a different conclusion explain your thought process. Then the original request has two different thought process to view. For me I choose the NS50 and that was my choice and I explained why, so instead of slagging me off put your own points across. Roger, I note you don't even consider the Nite Eye NE500 as an option despite it being cheaper, any reason? Mister Gain the reason why I never considered the Nite Eye was for the simple reason that when I was going through the search for a night vision for me, the Nite Eye was not fully developed when my search was going on. I was trying to give the person guidance and was in no way meant to say that the ones I mentioned were the only ones that he were to choose from. Regards Roger Quote Link to post
