I think the wcs tube trap is a really good trap, as good as the kania. I would have no issues with setting one in a loft situation. And the amount of jobs I have been called to and dealt with where a previous pestie has failed to gain control with warfarin is now getting uncountable. I'm in no way disputing that either the wcs or the kania are not good traps, but my methods are working for me. Regardless of the indifferences over choice of traps and methods of use. Warfarin is a last resort for me; in fact, I haven't bothered getting any in since it changed with the Biocides Regs. The big advantage of both the tube trap and the Kania is that there is little or no chance of a foul catch. These traps either catch and kill or don't catch at all. I think anyone who has used Fenns on a regular basis knows that they don't always kill straight off, and the last thing you need is a customer ringing you up and winging about the noise from a foul catch. But i dont do rats and mice so probably have a different mindset to the general pester. Horses for courses i guess, however, trapping is a serious issue when the outcome could be a squirrel banging about in its death throws, or not so near to its death chewing its way through the ceiling. All very well to say it aint happened yet, till, it happens.... Imagine the scenario of a squirrel caught by a foot in a fenn, desperate to get free, its 3.30 on a friday night and you have had a skinfull? You got to get your missus to drive you there, get your druken body into the loft, dispatch the critter (probably get bit along the way). Its a nasty business No, i will rely on the dead or not dead option thanks. Had a nice call a couple of year ago whilst i was tanked, wasp job at a midnight party, wasps pouring out of a roof and stinging just about everyone they could find. Missus was scared of the van (with good reason, no brakes) and a bunch of equally pissed party goers to meet me. Quote Link to post

OldTrapCollector 377 Posted March 30, 2013 Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 I am also a fan of the Fenn - either Mk 4 or Mk 6 for catching grey squirrels in woodlands. It seems any tunnel is irresistable to them, I took 155 in 5 weeks last year from one block of woodland, most of them fed the local badger population who were as keen to remove them from the traps as I was it seems ... I did trial a few BG 110's in tunnels using a plate rather than the conventional trigger wires with some success too, and also found use of some natural tunnels for the standard BG's. Like others have said, the BG is an adaptable trap, but having grown up using the Fenn I find it easy to adapt their use rather than fiddle with the BG. I am coming round (slowly) to using them ...
