Wondering if either of you lads (or anyone else) can help.

My sis was talking to a bloke who knows us.....cutting a long story short some people tried to form a lurcher show recently in Wooler. They had it all wrong, all different sizes mixed up, no proper judges etc. They want someone who can give them info how to do it properly and people to judge.

Its the Colledge valley (dont know if the spelling is right?) lurcher show, and i have a phone number for a lady in Forsyths of Wooler?

Please.

Hi Molly, we were there last year, and yes, it was a mess !!! Some people were charged £5 to get in, some £8 !!!! There was only a bouncy castle and an ice cream van, no trade stands at all. The Lurcher judge seemed a nice guy, but didn't have a clue about Lurchers or judging !! When the rain started he was bringing the dogs to the centre of the ring two at a time, then just gave up inspecting the dogs and had a look round and picked the winner !!! A very well known Lurcher man went to the organisers and said he would arrange a judge for this year. These hunt shows have got to get their act together, and this one is on the same day as Lowther ! We will be there as I prefer to support the Hunts, rather than the big shows, but I hope there will be a vast improvement over last year !!! I have been asked to judge this year for quite a few shows, but declined, as I want to show the dogs. I've accepted some requests to judge next year though; should be some supprised faces !!! :whistling::toast:

Cheers.

Have to agree with a lot that chartpolski said, I like the hunt supporters shows, and have supported loads over the years, but their skills at putting on an event, at times, borders on the ludicrus..I remember judging the Morpeth hunt years ago, and during the show the parade of hounds came through as if on the scent of a hound, nearly ploughed us down if we hadnt got out the way..at Anccrum a well to do lady asked if she could put her goat into the show, the organiser had more or less agreed, until I as the co-judge said no way...and judges, it seems that employing someone that had a collie or labrador 30 years ago is a good idea for a judge..Lurcher folk want a lot more at shows than what hunt shows are able to give..if the likes of Lowther etc are on the same day, with sponsored classes, knowlegable judges, racing etc, etc, etc....the hunt shows have no chance.

I hope the organisers do get some assistance, its a fantastic setting worthy of any show, worth the day out just to see the place

Weather permitting I will be there, hope there is a good turn out :drink:

Hi Doxhope, I'll deffinately be there, even though it was bad last year ! I've had an offer to be taken to Lowther, but honestly, I prefer the hunt shows, as I follow the hunts, (and have been on a few demonstrations !!). Last year was basicaly a rip off to get in; nothing to see or do; the lurcher show was about the worst I've seen !! So why go ? ; Simply to support a hunt. I would have loved to give some advice or judge, but I will be showing my dogs, and if I was in any way associated with the show and I won anything, the "cliques" tounges would start wagging !!! Yes, there really is such sad people at lurcher shows !! I will support the show by being there, entering my dogs, going on raffles, etc, and hopefully having a good day !! Hope for a bit craic with you.

Cheers. :toast:

Great event, well staged a credit to the organisers, only one little problem, it was cancelled when I got there :laugh:

But, the farmers up there lost everything last time, and no one wants that to happen again, better to be on the safe side, look forward to see-ing this beautiful part of north Northumberland next year, I hope....
