Weirhauch Hw100 T .177 - First Impressions

I took delivery of an HW100 T (.177) from the Air Gun Centre in Essex yesterday via my local Airgun Rifle Club - Mendip Shooting in Somerset.

 

I had specked up a package which was made up of the HW, Hawke Panorama 4-12 x 50, bag, 7 litre bottle and slow fill valve. The rifle came with an Inspection and Test Certificate. They had used H&W Field Target Trophy Pellets and provided the following results pre delivery based on 10 test shots put through a Chrony.

 

Velocity: 772fps (lowest) - 782fps (highest) - Average fps = 777.50fps
Energy: 11.6 (Average) - 11.74 (Highest)

 

The scope had been fitted, the gun packed in its bag and repacked into its box. The Faber 7 litre bottle and slow fill valve was manufactured in January 2013 and so pretty much the full five years left before retesting.

 

Whilst Mendip filled the bottle to 300bar they realised my anticipation and showed me how to fill the HW to 200bar safely.

 

To the Range

 

Mendips in door range is within an old barn with about 25 metres of range distance with proper targets and some fun plinking ones as well.

 

I had loaded up the two supplied 14 shot mags with H&N Field Trophy pellets (as per their test), prepared the scope for zeroing and decided to set it up at 10 metres before moving the distance out. This proved more difficult than I thought. Naturally the scope was well off point of aim. In fact although I was aiming at the centre the shots were not even hitting the target - trial and error with the scope adjusters brought a hole into view and within a coulple of mags I was able to put one shot through another in the bull.

 

I really love the blue illuminated Mil Dot and once zeroed at 10metres I moved onto 15metres and then to the full length of the range (25). No adjustment was necessary between 15 and 25 and I was pleased that the legendary accuracy of the HW100 was genuinely true. It felt like I was cheating!

The first fill gave me at least 70 shots (I actually lost count of the mag reloads after this) between 200bar full and 90bar yellow line (recharge necessary).

 

The rifle got excellent comments from fellow shooters and I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with its build quality, looks and initial performance.

 

The package included the cost of transporting everything, a paperwork fee to Mendip (HW100 T, Hawke Panorama 4-12X50, Bag, 7 litre Faber 300 bar bottle, Slow Fill Valve and some targets - £1,184.

How do you fill to 200 bar safely?

I only manage to around 150-160.

A question on your question then! How do you define safely? How do you know if it's safely filled? I though Weirauch stated it should be filled to 200 bar...? Sorry if they are dumb questions - completely new to this from my old springer.
