BORDERSCOT 3,816
trigger2. i have not got any dogs at the moment .breeding a dog as you know takes several years.from 1970 to 1999 i had lots of various sigthounds and lurchers but due to personal circumstances i have not been able to breed any .but after going on this forum my next project is going to be gsdxg or malxg or possibly husky x greyhound.this forum had rekindled my intrest and has renewed my intrest in lurchers also i have to prove to others that i am right and they are wrong Now you're talking mate...ah reckon any first x husky x grey will pull a sledge full of slab like sides of seal meat and 4 eskimos over 1000m quicker than any saluki/collie/deerhound x ever will...think you could be on to something there...and they can survive in the wilds of East Lothian...thanks to their twitchy muscles and non wimpyness.... 1 Quote Link to post

johnny boy68 11,726
northernlite.a gsd can run in thick cover they can track deer in the dark no lamp needed they dont rip open like a tomatoe like a lot of lurchers do.they have strong thick pads and good bone they have great stamina .they are super intelligent they can think for themselves they are not wimps they are hard, they use sight scent and hearing unlike most greyhoundy lurchers, they could survive in the wild unlike most greyhoundy lurchers .they have tremendous physhical power .they can be used as a gun dog a longnet dog bushing dog and if they throw right they make excellent hare dogs.in short they are proper lurchers. saluki x grey is a sight hound that needs fields of decent size .for gun dog work long netting bushing and general purpose work the saluki x g being sight hound is not capable of multitasking at all .saluki x grey are not even lurchers they are sightounds longdogs. You've just described what umpteen types can do, I've seen a few 1st x collie/greys that can run thick cover and hunt in woodland etc and feckin lots of dogs will hunt with no lamp. 3 Quote Link to post

Yep, only yesterday saw a hancock bred bitch going through some tidy cover, and f**k me if I haven't seen, and owned, some purebred whippets that used their noses like a beagle! Not much coat about em, but did that stop em ploughing through some very thick cover/brambles? Did it f**k! And they came out wihout being cut to pieces Quote Link to post

J.DOG 1,355
IMO a saluki x should be faster than gsd x and the mal x I'm not saying is faster because that's not always the case it depends on the dog and its conditioning but from the overall build of the dogs the saluki x should be faster it's leighter , small framed ect , compared to the heavier , bigger built GSD x and mal x . I know people don't like saluki xs and I can understand that , but they arnt just hare dogs they can and do other stuff if entered properly i know this the GSD x can easily take varied game and shouldn't be portrayed as just a big quarry dog they can do small game well , I don't know enough about mal x to judge on their ability , a wise man once told me ' talking about it is one thing , getting out there and proving it is another ' Quote Link to post
