brucemyster 75
it's not that difficult to run a new cable from the house consumer unit then you could put a small consumer unit in the shed/garage and run some proper sockets and lighting, I did it for 2 sheds one 20ft from the house and one 80ft, used proper armoured cable, 2 consumer units and a properly rated MCB in the house consumer unit. By picking up all the gear from ebay and bootfairs did it all for under £50. Videos are available youtube if your a little unsure, if you've got half a brain and are methodical you could do it. I always take photo's with my phone or digital camera at each stage so if it goes tits up I can put it back as it was when i started. Just looked on ebay and you can pick up a garage consumer unit for a tenner

brucemyster 75
if he does the job properly he could keep her in the freezer , how's that for a compromise? it's not that difficult to run a new cable from the house consumer unit then you could put a small consumer unit in the shed/garage and run some proper sockets and lighting, I did it for 2 sheds one 20ft from the house and one 80ft, used proper armoured cable, 2 consumer units and a properly rated MCB in the house consumer unit. BOLIO1 1,078
Solar panels wont work when they're covered with snow, autumn leaves or dust. Nor on cloudy days....even if you are lucky enough to have them installed on a south facing roof. I would go with the tested and proven power supply that has lifted mankind out of the dark ages and into the modern age of civilisation in the first world.....there's nothing worse than losing a freezer full of produce that you've built up over a hard worked season because the sun didn't shine or the wind didn't blow at the right speed....!
The Seeker 3,048
The other thing to consider is you mention a landlord? If so It needs to be installed by a qualified electrician as you will need a small works certificate for the alterations to the electrical installation. The landlord would probably insist on this as it is a legal requirement. This doesn't apply if you are just running an extention lead as has been suggested but fitting a socket will.

BIGLURKS 874
Thing is lads this is not my own house it's a rented house and like I say it would be likely we would be moving out of here in 3 years any way thing is landlord wants it done properly if I get it done and the electrics in this house are not the best anyway it still has a old fuse system that's why the sparky quoted so much plus I would end up having too dig up 12 foot of concrete too lay the wire and if I was too run extension cable from house too garage over hang would be going right over the top of my kennels and the thought of it making my kennel panels live would be too risky and its not the end of the world if the power goes out on this freezer cos its just for rabbits that go too a wildlife park just up the road just saves going up there every morning with a couple of rabbits all featherd game does not last long enuf too be frozen and the venison goes in the normal freezer cos it's all butcherd and prepared so trying too think of alternative ways that's why I was thinking solar panels that I could take with me if I moved instead of forking out money for some one else's garage just need reviews and advice on solar panels if u have them and they reliable
steve123 29
you could run the extension cable through a piece of hose or blue water pipe to stop it coming into contact with your dog runs. solar power and battery may not be up to the job , youd have to check how much power the freezer draws to know if the battery will keep going all night through the summer months when it gets hot in your shed. ,good luck
treecreeper 1,136
i did my shed at the bottom of the garden in my old house off a socket, to do anything else you need an electrician to either do it all or just make the final connections and sign it off. the laws been like this for a good while. i run mine in conduit and brackets along the floor right up against the wall. run it through an rcd though just incase. or just tell the mrs if she want to move in shell have to lump it.
