Buy New Or Secondhand

Recommended Posts

I've owned 12-14 air rifles and air pistols over the last 5 years and I have only ever bought secondhand. Never owned a new air rifle believe it or not! I've bought in the UK, USA and Canada (all sub 12fpe) and all have been fine - arrived fine and shot great.

I've had most posted and collected one in UK.

I look at the sellers previous dealings, get them to supply as many close ups as possible and then it's all down whether it feels right and trust. As I said, I have not had any problems yet (touch wood). Some great bargains to be had on the secondhand market and guns which have been looked after too.

If you ever have any problems there's plenty of capable airgun tuners you can send it off to or drop it down to your local gunsmith. You should save more than enough off the new price to cover a repair if worse comes to worse. Annoying it would be but that's the risk you take with secondhand. Still I have no probably buying secondhand.

i have bought 7 second hand guns with minor to be expected or no problems .happy to buy second hand but I would not recommend someone to do this .If the person got a problem after using my recommendation they may blame me.

Shoulder both stocks and see if you like the thumbhole stock! It's personal choice I'm afraid. It's what ever feels more comfy! Everyone is different. Personally I'm now a big fan of hw thumbhole stoc

my next springer will be second hand, im not splashing out for brand new again, bought 4 new weihrauchs last year. ...

but now i want a 77 or 80:) ... but dont want to pay full price!.

im confident that if theres any minor problems, worn spring or seals etc that i would be able to sort it myself so warranty wouldnt really matter.

although if i get a pcp i would get brand new.

I can't be blamed for anything - I've simply suggested that buying secondhand is a route I've taken on many occasions although there is a risk buying secondhand, most of the time it's worth it. Better to go and collect if you can to minimise risk even further.

Loads of people use airgun forums, gunstar, guntrader etc to buy secondhand by mail order and the number of satisfactory transactions must far outweigh the small number of negative ones.

I've bought used guns almost exclusively, with the idea that they may need a tune or similar after buying, I check chrono results and always prefer face to face. the idea being that if you buy used and expect a tune, you are never disappointed in what you get and things can only be improved on, as my xtx tuned R-10 proves.

The other reason I prefer used is that if I buy new, I'll freak when I scratch the rifle/ never take it out in anything other than perfect conditions/ have a break down when a bramble even looks at it! If the gun has a few honest scratches then I simply don't mind!

I've bought 2 second hand ones in the past. and never had a problem with either. then last year i bought a brand new 22 ks and had a problem with it after 6 months. it needed a new firing valve, it was sorted under warenty but it was the new one that needed attention.

Buy new mate that way you know the guns no been abused etc , when buying second hand alway's buy face to face your seeing the guy before you buy , there some difference between a mark and a scratch when buying and selling
