bunnyboiler 1,053
Calling a terrier of a sent is like calling a lurcher of a course forget it :-) Quote Link to post
sull85 36
should i be letting him work cover yet then or just keep him away till bit older? cheers pal Quote Link to post
outandabout 27
Sorry to hijack your thread, but your patt sounds exactly like my russell pup (11 months). Recall is spot on until there's something to hunt, then she just ignores me. Caught her first rabbit today mind, so it's not all bad. I'd also be interested to hear any tips or advice on this too. Good luck with your patt mate, lovely dogs. Quote Link to post
sull85 36
once his heads down hes like a hound lol just keeps going, not caught yet ... just wondered if his recall will improve with age when in cover etc or will he just keep ploughing through ???? Quote Link to post
outandabout 27
In the same boat bud, on another thread where I asked for advice I was told give the dog time and be patient so I'm hopeful. Quote Link to post
sull85 36
cheers pal, apart from that i cant fault him...ill keep you posted how he gets on Quote Link to post
mighty celt 996
if your dog is on a hot scent why would you want to call it off,as you state you want it for bushing so let it hunt, and call him in when he is not on the line off something. sull85 36
sometimes he can go to far ahead,,, just wondered if this is what terriers did or was it just him, like i said first pup pal...just didnt know if i was doing something wrong Quote Link to post
pigeonman 8
Let him do his thing! Some hunt up more than others, dont panic when you feel like hes to far away because he'll think that hes done something wrong when you keep calling him back, then he'll stay further and further away thinkin hes done wrong and end up ignorin you all together. Just relax and will end up doin what you want him to. Quote Link to post
sull85 36
thanks pigeonman Quote Link to post
mighty celt 996
as pigeonman said leave him hunt away once he is on the line of something,if he is not hunting something and just acting the tit wanting 2 be up ahead of you all the time then you need to work on his recall as that can be a pain in the ass having a terrier 70 yards ahead of you scaring game away and bolting game that the lurcher and other dogs wont have time 2 get on 2, 1 Quote Link to post
Peter Leemooch 160
don't suppress the dogs natural urge the reason you got him.you can put the finishing touches on him later without spoiling him Quote Link to post
