Springer is a good choice, but don't forget you'll only get out what you put in.it takes a lot of time and patience to get it right, ask if you don't know, there are plenty of people who will help, with advice etc.you will get things wrong but you will learn from this. Simon.

cheers for all your advice guys! im goin for the springer , what they like to train?

Springer’s are like thoroughbreds they are designed for a job but as Simon said above you only get out what you put in, the commitment you need is the important thing and the day you turn up at the shoot will all be down to you not the dog, it will put the kettle on if you spend the time teaching it, the only thing that is automatic is the fact they will hunt, but like a thoroughbred they are highly strung and if you hit these types then they will turn out different to say a staff who will just stand there and take it. So time is the key teach it one day and it may forget the next so you do it all over again and they are life changing, an hour of every day is min you will have to do and training sessions of 10 mins twice a day will turn out a dog better than if you teach it on a saturday morning. you cant just take them round the street for a 10 min walk before you leave it all day and then take it out for 5 hours on a saturday shooting.

But get it right and you will have a friend for life and there is nothing better, the more bonding you do at early age the better he will be, there is plenty of experience on here and if you are new speak to your local gundog training place and join as soon as you can, bad habits dont become bad habits if you start him or her off on the right foot, if you are new get some books read up speak to people, go out with them if you can. 50% is the dog 50% is you so you take the lead and teach him right and you will never look back.

there is a condition to the advice we give ... we want to see a pic on here when you get him or her,
