What Do We Pay Road Tax For?

Recommended Posts

As above. The state of the nations roads are disgusting. Where i live (S.Yorks) the roads are like something out of a third world country. It honestly looks like everybody on the road are drunk weaving all over the place to avoid potholes and such. The amount generated by road tax and derv and petrol is astronomical and yet we have to drive on substandard surfaces. The garages and motor parts industry must be rubbing their hands with glee at the amount of ball joints and shockers they are selling/fitting. Perhaps a boycott on everyone paying it might make them wake up but i honestly dont think its going to happen. Lets haves your thoughts and rants as it seems to me that motor vehicle owners/drivers are getting shafted every which way possible..atb NMF

Maybe we should get the Chinese in to build decent roads everywhere like they're doing in Africa, the way things are going they'll be better than ours in a few years.. :(

Its now called a Road Fund Licence, not road tax! I think they changed it so you cant moan about it!!

Same here, the motorways are a disaster....

Saw a van and a jab pulled off the road up near Ballinluig the other week, both with mshed up tyres and rims....there was a sinkhole in the middle of the A9 about 2ft across!

I put the front wheel of my motorbike in a pothole last year. Nearly came off and under the wheels of an oncoming bus. Would that have been cheaper for the council than filling the f*cking hole in?

holes --- all the cut backs round us verges hedges and trees dont get cut back -- holes dont get repaired no weeding no road sweeper -- big tree overhanging the green onto the road hit it everytime with my high top van phoned the council --they said they`ve no plans to cut the branches i said i`ll do it --- guess what i`d be done for damage to council property ---- :D i`ve sent photos of the tree the damage to the van and a £400 quote for the paint job now lets see if they cut its fecking branches back :D

The road tax system makes no fecking sense at all. It's not a tax on road use it's a tax on carbon emissions and commercial vehicles (that one really rattles my bollocks). It should be sacked off completely.

Tax on fuel is a far more sensible way of taxing road users. More miles you do the more you pay and the less economical your car the more you pay. Common fecking sense.

 You can have the same model of car as your neighbour, drive half as many miles as him in a year and still get taxed the same for producing half the emissions as he does in 12 months.. It's like drinking half as much beer as your mate on a night out yet still having to pay the treasury the same amount for the 'privilege'.. :hmm:
