@inan. Mate many boxers have got criminal pasts not just travellers lol ! Martin haggler , chris Pyatt the list could go on and for a lot more serious than dumping rubbish !

I'm aware of that. I was responding to the poster who called another a wanker for suggesting that travellers cheat pensioners out of money.

The link I posted states that Johnny Frankham got 2 years prison for conning an old lady out of several thousands of pounds for roof repairs.So the poster was right on at least that occasion.

I'm not into name calling or pointing fingers, but I think you will agree his crime was a little more serious that illegal fly tipping.

I didn't even know Frankham had been convicted of that, I googled his record and some info and it came up. End of.

Dont wont to tern this thread into a slanging match!!! but every time a gypsy is mentioned some wanker comes out of the woodwork with some way to slag them off

Sweeping statement I would put Jim Driscoll Owen Moran, Jock McAvoy,Joe Bowker, Len Harvey,Kevin Finnegan, Errol Graham,and Alan Rudkin above Sibbo , who I saw many times at Wembley and the R.A.H

i`ll give you a few of them ---

Finnegan boxed Sibbo's ears off at the R.A.H for the British title , that was 24 years ago ,[ makes me feel old because I was there ]. Then there's Colin Jones, Kirkland Laing etc

John McGuire did make it to the UFC he fought Tom kong Watson for the bamma title as well I fought hes brother at the Dorset steam fair I think he turned pro not sure how far hes gone tho

.I'm not anti Traveller, or anti Gorger. I grew up with, and went to school with travellers, my grandmother was one.

 

Johnny Frankham was probably the most talented and successful of the travellers who took up pro boxing during my lifetime. He was also a convicted con- man, and fraudster, according to the criminal justice system .

 

Frankham was a very good fighter, he gave Finnegan two excellent fights, one for the vacant British lhvyTitle which he won, the rematch which he lost.

He also won the Southern Area lhvy title. He record was 40 fights won 28.

Michael Ward a pro boxer, is a traveller.

John Joe Nevin, was an Irish International and Olympic boxer.

Francie Barret, light welter is a traveller.He is the EBU champion 17 wins from 20 fights.

Michael Gomez is from Irish traveller stock.

What about herol bomber graham

would`nt fight sibbo ---leics v nottm would of filled a stadium sibbo calls herol the limbo dancer .. differant styles would of been intersting fight ..

Too right mate !! Herol still looks well and fought an exhibition bout last November. A mate of mine sparred informally with him years ago - said it was like "trying to hit a ghost". Tremendous skills !!

i remember herol coming to the opening of my local club when I was a young lad he spent about 2 hours chatting with me and the other lads telling us stories about fights he'd had and gyms he'd been to I saw him a few years later at a show my nephew was fighting at he was still as nice a fella as you'd ever want to meet

I was hit in my car,driving passed a gyspy reversing out on the road,{mc donnagh}400quid was the damage.

I came home from work one evening,he came to the door and handed me 500 in twentys lol,sorry for the annoyance he saidl!

Anyway,he trains the local boxers,john joe neven is one of them,he was telling me {if you have a spare few pound boss}stick a few on john joes cousin,i think he said his name was hugh nevin.He reckons hes the next big name.

The reason most of these Gypsy boys cant make it in the pro game of boxing is they are brought up with the complete wrong mentality !........It seems to be ingrained in their culture to be " up for it " and not to back down...................thats all well and good but you need a lot more than being " up for it " to make a career in the paid ranks...............Ive known a number of fighters over the years from travelling communities they just had the complete wrong outlook i was friendly with Bobby Frankham back in the ,s he was a decent fighter but clumped a referee and got a life ban.......Lennie Smith was a good little fighter but was f****d off by every gym in London after he tried to get " revenge " on someone who took liberties with him in a spar.......boxing isnt about settling disputes,family honour or any of that bollocks....its about competing........fighting is the easy part......being a dedicated athlete and living the life is the hard pa.

Someone mentioned Billy Joe Saunders now here is a lad who has done things the right way,ive watched him from a kid as he is trained by a lifelong friend of mine .......he is as proud of his heritage and loyal to his people as any other travelling boy......but he lives the athletes life and got himself away from all the hothead sillyness that seems to go with all the family feud stuff that just doesnt belong anywhere near a boxing ring.....he surrounds himself with good people with years and years of knowledge and experience in the pro game and simply doesnt have this " im a tough gypsy " mentality.....boxing is not about showing how tough you are its about hitting and not getting hit..............simple.

gnash = i think we`ve had this coversation before but did a few of the frankhams fight pro -- were they norfolk way ..

I seem to remember he was from Reading or Bracknell somewhere along the m4 there i think they ended up near Newmarket races there was a few brothers last i heard Bobby was on a murder charge so obviously life didnt turn out too well which is a shame.

I liked Sibsons style it was all or nothing he didnt have the ability to box his way in but he made the best of what he had he was a pretty brutal puncher as well.......i remember he smashed up Minter then had a cracking fight with Kaylor........he always looked a bit fleshy i think he struggled with his weight he went up to light heavy to challenge my ol mucker Dennis Andries at Ally Pally i really felt for him that night he was just so frustrated at one point he just jumped up and down on the spot screaming .....Dennis had his number but his best years were behind him by then anyway....good honest fighter though Sibson.

Agreed ! Say what you like about Sibson ( I mean with respect to him there's no way he was the most gifted fighter) but he always gave it 100%. You could never accuse him of not trying !!
