That doesn't mean there all good for every fifty that go they'll be some that fart about not taking it seriously a few chubby ones there to lose weight lol some good ametuar lads and couple that'll go far . Floyd17586 454 Posted March 22, 2013 Report Share Posted March 22, 2013 i know there are some good Gypsy boxers around already, as there are from most other walks of life,but I wondered why they don't almost dominate pro boxing (in Britain anyway), since the sport is so important to their culture ? barenuckel boxing is part off our culture to sort out issues amongst traveling famillys.theres allot off travellers and gypsys up and coming in the boxing world both from england and ireland.IT is no diffrent two lads going round the corner for a scrap in an ale houes, thats not culture its what been going on for 100s of years, since duel ing times, what is right that every time a tinker has a pint he thinks he can fight the worldi can tell youv got allot of hate through what your texting.but thats not justa traveller thing thats most of the drinking population.you come on here running down travellers [BANNED TEXT] youv got worse over here doing allot worse in football hooligans , so called gangsters etc etc all these are buffers. gnasher16 30,437 Posted March 22, 2013 Report Share Posted March 22, 2013 The reason most of these Gypsy boys cant make it in the pro game of boxing is they are brought up with the complete wrong mentality !........It seems to be ingrained in their culture to be " up for it " and not to back down...................thats all well and good but you need a lot more than being " up for it " to make a career in the paid ranks...............Ive known a number of fighters over the years from travelling communities they just had the complete wrong outlook i was friendly with Bobby Frankham back in the ,s he was a decent fighter but clumped a referee and got a life ban.......Lennie Smith was a good little fighter but was f****d off by every gym in London after he tried to get " revenge " on someone who took liberties with him in a spar.......boxing isnt about settling disputes,family honour or any of that bollocks....its about competing........fighting is the easy part......being a dedicated athlete and living the life is the hard part. Someone mentioned Billy Joe Saunders now here is a lad who has done things the right way,ive watched him from a kid as he is trained by a lifelong friend of mine.......he is as proud of his heritage and loyal to his people as any other travelling boy......but he lives the athletes life and got himself away from all the hothead sillyness that seems to go with all the family feud stuff that just doesnt belong anywhere near a boxing ring.....he surrounds himself with good people with years and years of knowledge and experience in the pro game and simply doesnt have this " im a tough gypsy " mentality.....boxing is not about showing how tough you are its about hitting and not getting hit..............simple. 13 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I was responding to the poster who called another a wanker for suggesting that travellers cheat pensioners out of money. The link I posted states that Johnny Frankham got 2 years prison for conning an old lady out of several thousands of pounds for roof repairs.So the poster was right on at least that occasion. I'm not into name calling or pointing fingers, but I think you will agree his crime was a little more serious that illegal fly tipping.
