I think the point of the media sexualising just about everything now is having a huge affect on our kids, my eldest girl is 14, she has an I phone and my wife checks it regularly( for her safety), she's honest with us ( to a degree lol) and most of the boys at her age access hard core porn everyday on there phones, I pods etc... It's a different world, kids expectation of sex now are entirely different to when we would find a smutty mag and take it to the den lol... Music videos are another thing again, half the time they are simulating sex, as Paulus said all of this should be on after the watershed, you can't monitor the tv every minute in a busy family household... Then you've got these ridiculous " celebrities" like Rylan, or Louie spence, ramming there over the top camp ways down your throat... They're not funny so why do much air time??

The worlds changed very quickly I would say in the last 10 to 15 years, technology now has taken over...

As a parent all you can do is your best, educate, encourage and love.. After that what will be will be...... But I would still be disappointed if any of mine were gay, I don't think that makes me any worse of a parent or judgemental to gay people....

 

As for Gareth Thomas, I don't really care, it doesn't affect my life one bit....

Dont make a difference at all to me, I do business with a few gay men and they are all cracking lads.

If my boy rocked up one day and said he was a poof, it would not change how I feel about him one little bit.

Wilf i hope its not rude to ask this......and ive only quoted your post because it rung a bell with me straight away,and from previous posts you sound like a pretty damn good parent to me !

But a pal of mine recently went through the exact situation you mentioned......it took him near 2 years to even admit it to us and i could tell through knowing him years it absolutely broke his heart.......ive noticed small things over the months their relationship certainly seems different,ive spoke to him about it but he says its not.......but i can tell it is i think his pride is dented more than anything.

So my question is this.......would it really not change anything at all if your lad came out with that ?.....do you think its one of those who knows till it happens kind of things ?.................and thats to anyone not necessarily Wilf............myself i think if we are really honest with ourself it would hurt and dissapoint any of us,it certainly would me......its one of those things we all try and think the right thoughts and say the right things but if it actually happened,i think a lot more of us if honest with ourself would be similar to Brookies thoughts.

I would feel a failure as a parent if that happened gnash. I'd feel to blame just like you would if your son walked into a school and started shooting everyone. Before anyone says, no I'm not saying gays are serial killers just like I never said they were pedos. As a parent it's down to you to shape your kids life, do right from wrong, allow them to grow into responsible adults. Yes you need to allow them to find their own paths in life but shagging their same sex friends, that's a f***ing no no. I'd Definately make sure they knew it was wrong.

I don't think there's any comparison between Tom and Jerry and the dangers of the Internet for children... I'm not hard line with my kids but at 14 I still feel we need to protect her, just recently my daughter had joined a social network ( don't know the name but not face book), my wife checked her phone and 2 men had contacted her in the first week, her replies were along the lines of "I don't know you so don't talk to me" type thing ( very sensible and confirming our trust in her).. But one continued messaging and asking for photos etc, he then sent her a naked photo of himself ( neck down)..... Now we're we wrong to snoop?? We sat her down and talked openly about the dangers, she was not in trouble, we treat her like an adult but she is still a kid... She will keep things from us obviously, she needs her freedom and life.. But I won't stop protecting her because I'm her dad that's my job...
