lurchergrrl 1,441
Ya but when it comes to your kids Paulus you have to put their happiness before your own. We spend their entire lives putting them first. If they make an adult decision to love someone, if they are not hurting anyone ... well, that's them. I wouldn't like it, but I'd lump it if they were happy in themselves. I have gay friends - male and female. Doesn't bother me at all. It's not for me, and watching men kiss makes me really uncomfortable I must say. TV and media are forever broadcasting sexual stuff - straight and otherwise. Is it any wonder kids grow up these days hyper aware of it, and more interested in exploring things? My kids don't watch ANY adult tv. I find it hard enough to explain what the animals are doing on Discovery never mind what the humans are doing its not just adult tv though is it, its on just about every soap from 7pm onwards, it should only be shown after the 9pm watershed, as for my kids , this may sound harsh but if im against something then thats it full stop. i may be old fashioned but i can say i live by my beliefs and dont change them to suit situations.that way i have nobody to blame for anything but myself. That's what I mean Paulus, after 7pm it's Nat Geo, Discovery, Eden or the Cartoon Network. They don't need to see that stuff.

walshie 2,804
To all the homophobics, answer me honestly, IF any of your family kids etc, needed a Transplant or bone marrow or what ever, would you let them die, rather than have a gay doner, BE HONEEEST I'm not answering this as "homophobic", just as a parent. Of course I would do anything I could to help my family. I doubt very much if the transplant donor's sexuality would be mentioned, but if it was, then so what? A kidney is a kidney etc. Still doesn't mean I/we have to condone something we don't agree with.

NEWKID 27,088
I think the point of the media sexualising just about everything now is having a huge affect on our kids, my eldest girl is 14, she has an I phone and my wife checks it regularly( for her safety), she's honest with us ( to a degree lol) and most of the boys at her age access hard core porn everyday on there phones, I pods etc... It's a different world, kids expectation of sex now are entirely different to when we would find a smutty mag and take it to the den lol... Music videos are another thing again, half the time they are simulating sex, as Paulus said all of this should be on after the watershed, you can't monitor the tv every minute in a busy family household... Then you've got these ridiculous " celebrities" like Rylan, or Louie spence, ramming there over the top camp ways down your throat... They're not funny so why do much air time?? The worlds changed very quickly I would say in the last 10 to 15 years, technology now has taken over... As a parent all you can do is your best, educate, encourage and love.. After that what will be will be...... But I would still be disappointed if any of mine were gay, I don't think that makes me any worse of a parent or judgemental to gay people.... As for Gareth Thomas, I don't really care, it doesn't affect my life one bit....

NEWKID 27,088
Lol.....watching 2 gays/lesbians kiss on tv doesn't make them turn gay ffs. Just the same as playing violent games doesn't make them violent. If yer bent yer bent.....Get over it!!!! No I agree mate it doesn't, but everything is ramped up as far as sex is concerned now, teenage lads watching any porn they can because its so accessible on their phones etc is not healthy in my opinion... I think it can shape their views on sex at a very early age... I would hazard a guess most people on here of my age and older first views of sex were in those dirty mags you'd seemed to find stashed everywhere years ago.... Now it click porn in the search engine and take your pick, all day everyday ( if they want to), I've read some of the texts from boys, she's a sensible girl luckily, but the lads are full of hormones and being fuelled by vids which are at times wrong.... Gay straight whatever the sexualisation of pretty much everything now is not good for our kids IMO, vigilante parenting is not easy
Brewman 1,192
I've kept up with this thread from the start and am impressed with everyone's honesty. I like to think that if any of my kids turned out gay it wouldn't bother me but who knows, maybe it would maybe it wouldn't however if they were very brash and flamboyant eg Rylan & Louis Spence then I would be annoyed as I dont like in your face people be it sexuality religion politics etc. One thing I would say that to say or imply someone is homophobic because they don't like it or would be upset/dissapointed etc if their kid, mates sporting hero was gay is a bit strong. Nowhere on this thread has anyone suggested harm or ill will towards gays even if they disagree with it strongly.
