Guest Frank
A young lad down the road from me, is getting a couple of jills from my freind and has got this new rabbit hutch from a pet shop for his young ferts. He asked me to look at it yesterday, as he was worired that the bars might be too wide and started to put some mesh on it, as seen in pic. I reckon it should be fine, with a few minor adjustments to make it ferret proof, but looking at the bars, prehaps they are a tad too wide? What you reckon folks? Cheers, Frank. ferret15 0
its amazing the holes ferts can get through i think they might be able to get out maybe try it first but watch them for a hour or so they will get out if they can or if hes unsure put the wire on to be on the safe side preventions better than cure Quote Link to post
Guest bullterrier
everything look ok to me mate Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
hard to say for sure Frank,it may be ok but i'd go for the mesh, better looking at it than looking for it that'll have set the lad back a euro or two Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
It certainly did JDF , 115 to be precise. We tried a couple of ferts in just now and they were working to get out, so now he has the bars coverd in mesh. Funny thing is, the assistant in the pet shop, said it was ideal for ferrets to him. Kay 3,709
It looks a nice sturdy hutch frank, better than the crap our pet shop sells once the weldmesh has been added it will be great Pass on my good luck wishes to the lad when he gets his ferrets & i am sure you will school him well in the future Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
That stuff on it is fine, I got it on my one of my hutchs and never even got close to geting out. H&J Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Thanks FL & H & J Its coverd in the mesh now and his ferts are doing great. He will be well schoold, in all aspects, as he is very keen and sensible, far better then some little feckers that hang out on street coners ect. Frank. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
A fine hutch, it looks well built but it should be for that type of money. It's always nice to see a young person get involved in fieldsports instead of hanging round on the streets looking dodgy. Edited July 28, 2007 by maltenby Quote Link to post
borderboy 80
looks smart. I'd have stuck the mesh on the inside of the frame thats one thing i wish i'd done on mine... stops the ferrets scratching the preserver off... Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Makes sense that borderboy, thanks. Frank. Quote Link to post
woodchip 2
a jill will escape out of that no problem mine escaped out of there food feeder and i can only just fit my fingers in it Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
It has mesh allround now woodchip and seems secure, so should be fine, as far as i can see. Frank. Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
a jill will escape out of that no problem mine escaped out of there food feeder and i can only just fit my fingers in it Mine have lived in a similar hutch with the same bars for over a year and havent escaped I have small Jills too.... I'm not saying dont put the mesh, no harm in doing so but in my experiance it dosent need it. H&J Quote Link to post
borderboy 80
my large(ish) hobs can slip through 2" weld mesh with relative ease... I reckon they could squeeze through something a fair bit smaller, so can only imagine the gaps a little jill could squeeze her body through... Quote Link to post
