hi all was thinking about getting rid of my terrano and getting a defender 90 Iv hurd alot of people say the discoverys are unreliable and leak ect ect. just wondering what experience you guys have had with the 90's or am I making a mistake buying one? cheers

if your after a car that doesnt leak in , dont get a 90 ...

having said that the ones ive been around have all been reliable and anything what did go wrong was easy to repair

yeah I know the parts are cheap and there's no end of landrover scrap yards so would be easy to get the bits for them, the diesel pump on my terrano just packed up costing me £850 iv had enough of it and want a change

Had 4 landies, and have now swore I will never have another.. not worth the hassle.

I have went back to Mitsubishi.

 

Freelanders ! holy f***ing crap, what a pile of shit they are. and There is now way I would pay the price wanted for some of the dog defenders and 90`s that some folk ask,

My Terrano never let me down but 2.7 costing me too much in fuel.

Missing 4x4 though thinking of old landy for weekend / field use.

The defenders are a lot of money, but then obviously will hold its money. I had a disco Td5 which I really liked but it had about £8000 worth of receipts so that says something about them....

 

Gone for a landcruiser 4.2 turbo diesel.........Japanese reliability all day long

wish I could say that about mine spent about 2k on it in the last 6 months new clutch, new shocks on front, anti roll bar linkage, anti sway bar, injectors reconditioned and now diesel pump its only done 108k

I've had my 90 for 3 years now and it has cost me £40 to get through 3 MOT's, never let me down.

As far as leaking goes i was always told if you want a land rover that doesn't leak get a soft top.

They aren't as fast or as comfortable as some of the others but who cares.

I wouldn't have anything else.

Had my 300tdi disco for 5 years and given it loads of abuse. Started greenlaning then got into terratagging and entered it into a winch challenge while building our traybacked rangie. Would like to see any other 4x4 stand up to the hammering its had. Yeah its had its faults but nothing too serious. worst was blowing the clutch in a bog, but driven too and from all but that event. Rather worrying about the leaking issues be a bit more concerned about the metal worm, but as long as you can weld and do a bit of simple mechanics then I would say landy over anything.

 

P.s. they don't leak, just mark their territory.

dhlm how do you afford that I pay silly amount now for a 2.7 most insurance companies wouldn't insure me on a 3 liter or more until im 25

Dunno mate, I'm a named driver its in my misses name, she has got about 4 years no claims but is only 22 (i think) lol....... I thinks its about £800

 

Stay away from ye old rust buckets get a real motor.......
