Collie Lurcher As An Allround Working Dog.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I`m looking for a good working dog for rabbits/lamping and ferreting and also to work as a gundog,i`ve heard that the collie lurcher first cross is a really clever and capable dog and would fulfill these roles.

You lurcher men really seem to know your dogs and hopefuly might help me with your knowledge of these lurchers.

Also guys what are the opinions of buying such a dog from a specialist breeder such as Hancocks ?

Thankyou for any advice.

Mark.

Collie lurchers can do all that and is great to see people faces when your using one for picking up. Hancock question always asked, he's a breeder only interested in money wouldn't go near him, there's a litter of first x collie greyhound on Facebook at a cracking price like £50

hi mark welcome to the site mate,i take it you meant a collie/greyhound first cross which will do all the above tasks reasonably well,if properly trained i might ad, but like anything else you get good ones and not so good ones ,as for hancock lurchers love him or hate him if you go to him you know your getting a genuine half cross which if entered right should turn out to be a useful dog.

 they have their faults, biggest being picking runs. But if you ain't too fussy they'll do the job. Everytime I see someone referring to Hancock I automatically think its a wind up, especially from someone new to the site. Funny that.....

Never had a Hancock bred dog,but did contact him once, after I told him what I was after he advised me against buying anything from him, seemed a genuine man to me,puppy farmer or not, they've been selling pups a long time now,so must have their fair share of satisfied customers, not get one off him for 50 notes though
