English Football, Is It All That......

Recommended Posts

Gnash how many players have you seen play for england that shouldnt have ... and the amount that should have . I agree with you on the fact if there good enough they will play irregardless of there age . And in many aspects england should do the same and no matter if they play for a championship side , if there doing the biz and are the form players they should be in the team .

I have always believed that the England team should be drawn from all the divisions, young hungry players with a few old heads to steady the ship.....plus it would add that extra competition for places which is always a good thing in football.

English football, one of if not the richest leagues in the world but is it really all that? No matter how rich they are they don't have the best player in the world or the best team in the world, Spai

Late 70s Early 80s English Clubs Dominater Europe Liverpool , Aston Villa & Notts Forest , Some off the Best Players in them Teams Where Scottish Dalglish , Gemmill , Souness , Hansen , Nicol , John Robertson , Bremner Ect , I think Scottish Football Has Really Struggled Since Them Days as Where Are The Similar Players From Yesteryear Today . . There Not There But Why ?

Good point lanesra nearly every english club had a few scotsman . Its as if scotland has lost a generation of footballers . I dont think money is to blame as that is something that is lacking in the scottish game .

Id imagine its quite exciting times for genuine Swansea/Cardiff fans young and old......nice clubs as well ive always enjoyed visiting their grounds.

I tell you what mate, one of the nastiest and most bitter rivalries in world football will be brought to the attention of the world if Cardiff do end up in the premiership.. The fans can't help themselves causing shit with each other even when they both turn up together to watch the national team play!

Cardiff were well respected back in the day they always had a strong little mob..............didnt know there was much of a rivalry between them though, that will be interesting then.

They have a bitter rivalry gnash, the police even escort the Swansea fans on international day in Cardiff.

Well i never, you live and learn.........all adds a bit of spice

People moan about the current United side not being that good yet we're on course to take the title with a record number of points if we keep on at the current rate.. This team might not have the flair players that others have had in the past, but the amount of times the current team has won games from loosing positions this season speaks volumes IMO..

I await the backlash!

Who's this we? Thought you were a Taff? :icon_eek:

Cheers, D.

PS, I'm a lifelong Blackburn fan, somebody give me a hug FFS :icon_redface::laugh:

Couldnt agree more..........i think for England to cap a real youngster he,s got to be one of these superstars in the making like Rooney/Owen was.......i dont think we,ve got the bottle to chance our arm on just a good promising youngster playing for a lower league club i remember watching quite a few championship players last year wondering why id never heard of them before....theres some good young players out there.

Thats half our problem we just dont show enough belief in the youngsters out there and there is talent out there . We have to change things in the england set up if we are to move on and progress at international leval .

Have you seen Giggs play recently Baw? United have used him sparingly this season, more so now towards the end of the season when his experienced head is needed to guide the younger players over the line.. Same with Ferdinand.. Make no mistakes, Fergie ain't known for his sentiment, if either player didn't still merit their place in the side or at the club, they wouldn't fecking be there!

Aye he does use them sparingly I agree. Don't get me wrong, I think Giggs is a cracking player, always said I'd have him in a minute play for my team same with Gerrard. I'm sure he started against Real though if I'm not mistaken. Playing an old timer like that in a game of that magnitude says it all for me ;)

Ha.....I reckon i could write Gnasher reply too this off by heart by now...... :D

:D ....Funny thing is without even reading the thread i knew word for word what Baws post was going to say before even clicking on it,my only surprise was it took him this long !

What Baw seems to get confused with though is the words " LEAGUE " and " CLUB "..............a league has 20 odd clubs !!.....i agree England doesnt possess the strongest club at this moment ( even though an English club is the current Champions League title holders :whistling: )...................but thats what the Champions League as a competition is for to find that out and as he rightly says no English team has reached the current stage so no argument there.............but this is 1 season !!...........Over the last 10 years an English club has won it 3 times......no other country can top that....and it was 3 DIFFERENT clubs every time not like the 3 times Spain has won it with Barcelona ONLY !

As regards Man Utd walking away with the league this year......yes they are and thats not good from a competetive point........but Barcelona are about 15 points clear in Spain......Juventus are about 12 points clear in Italy.......Bayern Munich are a good 20 points clear in Germany.............are they all poor leagues then ?

My bet would be the likes of Everton,Newcastle,Fulham etc are better clubs than the equivalently placed clubs in Italy like Torino.....Getafe in Spain....or Wolfsburg in Germany.....if you are comparing LEAGUES that is...............i,ll resist comparing with the Scottish league........now that would be silly

I thought it was just celtic fans who spoke about Europe in the past tense....., do you know it took us to show you lot how to win it :D yes Barca etc are running away with there league but the sign of a strong club is one that can do it both in Europe and domestically. No point in guessing how better the also rans are in your league compared to their European counterparts. Best sticking to the hard facts and that's the elite, which is your Man U, Chelsea, real, Bayerns of the world. Your lot haven't competed and that's a fact  so you can dress it up how you like..... Right now Celtic competed with Barcalona....... Man U.... Err well got beat by a ref
And thats my point .....your either comparing CLUBS or your comparing LEAGUES....which is it ?......If its leagues the English Premier league is still right up there.....if your comparing clubs well quite clearly English clubs wont be up there this year, but as a competition over the last 10 years English clubs have PROVED the English league is by far the strongest by 3 DIFFERENT clubs winning the title.
 your a tricky f****r, I'll give you that. Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea all won it the last 10 years. All in a precarious position financially no? The last 10 years or so has been your most prosperous time and yes, they did all do it. But look at your best team now, the one that's running away with your league. Investment has been poor. No van nistelroys or Ronaldo's. yea they have van persi, not a bad player. Prob equates to torries. Rooney I've never really rated. They're still relying on Ferdinand and Giggs lol. You can say I'm just talking about a club and not the league, but that club is pishing that supposed strong league  so really, how strong are the rest?
crock of shite your talking through you rear baw rooney persie are class relying on giggs and slow mo rio check how many games they have played this season  think you got a bad case of the old green eyed monster  PRICK

Rooney without doubt is the most over rated player since Shearer and Robbie Fowler  Gareth Bail is twice the player Rooney is........prick

Isn't it the Barclays Premier League not the English Premier League afterall Swansea City play in it and the way Cardiff City are going they'll be in it next season too and last I looked they were Welsh !! I suppose if Cardiff and Swansea wanted to reach Europe every year they could go play in the Welsh Premier league.

My old Mother (god rest her soul) always said never slag somebody elses house UNLESS your own is in good order. :D

Wait until Bale and co pump them on Friday night Johnny, Baw'll have something proper to moan about then!

 lot of respect for Bale, he's your only hope though lol. Least you've got a hope mind  wee strachan will sort him out don't you worry ;)

Baw you say best sticking to facts................yet you are ignoring them !!!

This is a FACT.....in the last 10 years 3 DIFFERENT English clubs have won the champions league,no country has won it more..........Spain has equalled that with 3 wins also but only Barcelona have won it.

Does that not suggest the English Premier league is the strongest ?...................If you cant see that then i think it can only be because you dont want to ;)

Lol ok, it WAS a strong league. You got to admit Liverpool will struggle to do anything in the near future, Chelsea is anyone's guess how they go, man city, another fashion accessory so that pretty much leaves arsenal and Man U...... Oh dear

EPL is the strongest league world wide, usually it's still competitive at this time off the year, unlike Spain where only barca and Real Madrid get a look in, and take all the money so other clubs don't get a chance? Hardly my idea of a strong league, 2 teams being world class and the rest a shower off shite?

You'd love to have 2 world class teams like Barca and Real Madrid. How many teams in England could you genuinely say are world class?

Lot of reasons for it mate but here's some I think has caused the rot. Back then there wasn't much entertainment, almost every kid was into football. Now they are more into Facebook, Xbox, watching football rather than playing it, which you can't blame them. When I was young you could play on the street or park. Not allowed a ball in the park and too many cars for the street. Kids also give up easier, not willing to put the effort and time to train. Scotland's only a small country so back them 99/100 kids playing football, more chance of finding a gem. Now it'll be 20/100. Plus Scotland doesn't have the facilities to train in the winter. Back then even the professionals played on snowy pitches, too PC now. Also back then every c**t was poorer, you could afford a football or someone could, now kids get everything. Most of the best footballers come from the poorest countries and backgrounds. The Bosman rule didn't help either. Why should a club like dunfermline nurture a kid, guide him to a good standard then see him leave for next to nowt? The flood of foreigners is another factor. Teams prefer to buy a mediocre player from turkey than one from a lower home division. Fans are just as bad, they like hearing there team buying Zarawich than mcDonald. Back when Scottish football was dominating Europe, players were pretty much owned by the club and the players were happy to play for the club. Times change, players would rather sit on the bench or be a part player as long as the money's rolling in. The whole thing has gone tits up.
