foxdigger13 114
EPL is the strongest league world wide, usually it's still competitive at this time off the year, unlike Spain where only barca and Real Madrid get a look in, and take all the money so other clubs don't get a chance? Hardly my idea of a strong league, 2 teams being world class and the rest a shower off shite?
johnny boy68 11,726
I understand were your coming from gnash I've been to watch Cardiff on many an occasion with some of my mates and the atmosphere is great and you can't help but get caught up in it but I wouldn't start supporting them just because they're doing well. I wish the club and all its fans the best of luck but I'll still support Liverpool. Cardiff have a great support and hopefully they'll get that monkey off their back and reach the Prem this season, it'll be great for the area aswell. I wouldn't really have a local club to follow though to be honest, I suppose my nearest local team who play in the prem/championship or league 1/2 would be Cardiff but I'm nearer Newport one way and Merthyr the other way. I suppose if I was a kid again in this day and age then I'd probably end up supporting Cardiff.
Lab 10,979
Remember this Baw? I do........and i remember Bale running amok. Heard Mcgee talking on the radio the other day saying they have watched DVDs on how other teams have managed to cope with him. Hope its the "how to catch a player above the knee and not get sent off" DVD.......
Malt 379
Id imagine its quite exciting times for genuine Swansea/Cardiff fans young and old......nice clubs as well ive always enjoyed visiting their grounds. I tell you what mate, one of the nastiest and most bitter rivalries in world football will be brought to the attention of the world if Cardiff do end up in the premiership.. The fans can't help themselves causing shit with each other even when they both turn up together to watch the national team play!
WILF 47,353
Where's Baw?......has he gone off to read his " Striker" annual 1986 to dig up a few more footy factoids ? Lol lol lol

brookie 1,193
Ha.....I reckon i could write Gnasher reply too this off by heart by now...... ....Funny thing is without even reading the thread i knew word for word what Baws post was going to say before even clicking on it,my only surprise was it took him this long ! What Baw seems to get confused with though is the words " LEAGUE " and " CLUB "..............a league has 20 odd clubs !!.....i agree England doesnt possess the strongest club at this moment ( even though an English club is the current Champions League title holders )...................but thats what the Champions League as a competition is for to find that out and as he rightly says no English team has reached the current stage so no argument there.............but this is 1 season !!...........Over the last 10 years an English club has won it 3 times......no other country can top that....and it was 3 DIFFERENT clubs every time not like the 3 times Spain has won it with Barcelona ONLY ! As regards Man Utd walking away with the league this year......yes they are and thats not good from a competetive point........but Barcelona are about 15 points clear in Spain......Juventus are about 12 points clear in Italy.......Bayern Munich are a good 20 points clear in Germany.............are they all poor leagues then ? My bet would be the likes of Everton,Newcastle,Fulham etc are better clubs than the equivalently placed clubs in Italy like Torino.....Getafe in Spain....or Wolfsburg in Germany.....if you are comparing LEAGUES that is...............i,ll resist comparing with the Scottish league........now that would be silly gnash do you think that the foreign investment and huge numbers of foreign players playing in england because of this money is having an adverse impact on the english game and the development of young players now .west ham have a great academy and have probably done more for the development of english players than any other club especially over the last twenty years .do you think that because of all these foreigners in the premiership is the reason for the national side very poor form over the last five years or so because of youngsters not breaking into senior teams and getting the experience and development needed . theres very good teams in the premiership no doubt with great players but is it to the detriment of the national team because so many of them are foreigners now

WILF 47,353
My tuppence worth on foreign players is that they have been of great benefit to the modern game, especially the Italians. They showed a whole generation of players how to eat properly, how to train properly and how to look after your body. They also showed them how to play football and be comfortable with the ball at your feet. No egg, chips and a pint before the game for them boys......look at Vialli, smoked like a trooper but was still able to play at a high level. I personally think they have been of benefit Look at Paolo Maldini, he was still one of the best defenders in the world when he retired at 40 or whatever he was Edited March 20, 2013 by WILF
ferretville 69
I think we have had sum quality foreign players play these shores and sum mediocre ones to . We have also had sum fantastic home grown talent and sum not so good . But i think foreign players are often blamed for our national games failures .

Ive said for years id like to see a rule brought in where a side must field a minimum say 4 home grown players at any time.............it definately effects a lads career at international level i think Rooney/Owen etc were probably the last really young lads we,ll see playing for England.....thats not to say good youngsters are not out there but they are just not getting the exposure, most are being sent out on loan rather than a club chancing their arm and playing them in the first team..............West Hams policy was " if your good enough your old enough " that was all under the development of Tony Carr who had a brilliant outlook on the game he was responsible for players like John Terry,Joe Cole,Lampard,Carrick, the Ferdinand boys,Defoe,Johnson and loads of others who all gained valuable top level experience at a young age with West Ham by putting faith in their ability against the Man utd,Liverpools etc not pissing about in the lower leagues to gain experience. I dont think foreign players have had an adverse effect on the English game.......but the national squad yes most definately

ferretville 69
Gnash how many players have you seen play for england that shouldnt have ... and the amount that should have . I agree with you on the fact if there good enough they will play irregardless of there age . And in many aspects england should do the same and no matter if they play for a championship side , if there doing the biz and are the form players they should be in the team .
