TOMO 27,169
Up at 4.45' and arrived at the farm at 7.45,, vin and trigger was already there,, vin phoned me and said,, look up the fell,,, and there he was at the top waving at me...fecker. So off I climbed,, when I got to vin,, he was ferreting a warren we did last,, after giving him a bollocking for fecking around,, he had 4 rabbits out of it,,, we only got 3 last week,,,doh. So after catching my breath from the long climb I went up the hill a little more, a dm saw two rabbits go in to a warren,,and another drop in to a different warren a few yards away,,,now the snow was quite deep about 3 inch or so,, so need from nets,, as the rabbits would struggle to run in it,,, and I was right,,if I'm honest they were very easy pickings,,, I said to vin he should have took his young pup,, it would have been a great education for her,, and got her some easy catches. That first warren I got both the rabbits out,, both cought easy by the dog,, also got those first two on film,, the next warren was the same with three bolting,, and this was to set the screen for me for the day,,, in fact I only used nets on one warren that was on the sheere bank of a stream with a 20 foot drop 3 nets on there and two rabbits streight out in to nets. Vin was to climb farther up the hill and ended up wasting an hour on a patch of land with nothing on,,, me and trigger went down the vally sides and were lucky to just keep doing small warrens, wich was adeal for just one ferret and bolting to the dog,,, trigger was using nets as he had his old dog,,, and I don't think he wanted to loose anything ,,lol . But the old dog did well,, whenever trigger was digging the old dog would come over to me on a near by warren ,, he's a good old dog ferreting,, real pleasure to have around. Venus has also learned a new trick,, she has realy learned how to intersept rabbits as the bolt catch no end in the air,, as the fly out ,, great fun to watch. Doesn't time seem to go very fast when your ferreting I had looked at the time and it was 11.30,,,then the next time it was 4.20 feck me I better start moving back to the motor,, so I got loaded up with the 36 rabbits I had and walked back to the motor,, when I got there I realised I had left vin locator back up the vally,,, feck me,, so I went back up,,,doh, after getting the locator on the way back Venus cought another rabbit,, and I met up with the other two and gave vin a lift with some of the rabbits.. So a quik line up with the rabbits,,, and we had broke last weeks total 103, a great day all round with no deep digs for me and all those rabbits apart from 2 being cought by the dog,, or a few that were dug,,, cheers lads Here's the two that bolted on the first warren 8 Quote Link to post

trigger2 3,167
what a shift i put in. got into bed at 20 past 2 this morning, got in and went straight to bed. my knees and wrists are fecking sore today as the cold got into them yesterday and it dont seem to have completly come out of them yet. i had a bloody good day and it was well worth it. i used purse nets allday but it wasnt to bad, because of the snow blocking some of the holes i didnt need to put anymore than 9 nets down on a warren allday. my old dog looks in better condition than me this morning lol. if you could see us now you would think i was the one who's semi retired. Guest vin
What a great day..Cheers Tomo. Trigger was at my place for 5am and we were at the farm for 7.15am and off up the hill in no time..trigger was a man on a mission he walked straight up the steepest part of the fell instead of taking the easier diagonal route..And me like a fool followed him..I was sweating like a pig half way up ! and trigger was up there like a mountain goat in no time..lol. I planned to go higher up than i was last time but the snow was getting quite deep the higher i got and it got to the point where it was becoming a bit dangerous when i was sinking up to my waist down onto rocks and very uneven surfaces etc etc and i got to the point where there was no bunnies anywhere up that far..so after wasting a couple of hours high up i came back down a few levels to where I started seeing a few more warrens and prints etc etc. It was so still and there was no wind I could hear my own heartbeat and heavy breathing..lol. I never netted up any warren at all until the end of the day when I came down to low ground and netted one up with trigger..that ended in a dig. Anyway I just sneaked up to the warrens nice and quiet and dropped 1 ferret in and stood back and tried no to move..The snow was so noisey when you stood down on it,the rabbits would hear you on top with every step you take (as sting sang )..SO no nets just stealthy sneeky quiet catches..I think the dog even knew the same.she was tippy toe tapping round the warrens when she marked em and as soon as ferts went in she was in silent mode just like me. At one point we got 3 out of one warren all in about 1 min.. It was so quick i fell over flat in the snow trying to run..I was videoing it and you will see just as she,s picking up a bunny another one stick its head up and pops back down,,well it then makes a run for it as Im taking the 1st off the dog..She catches the second and immediatly another jumps out..she crunches the one in her mouth and drops it and catches the 3rd while im picking up the 2nd..It was fast, fun and the best bit of sport ive had all year, i think...to be honest theres beeen so many good moments this year i cant keep up..I was chuffed because my dog in the past has lost loads of double bolters because she doesnt kill them and when she runs for next bunny the 1st usually runs back down another hole.. So progress is always being made with my Stupid old Rescue Dog. . .by the way she,s still a nitemare in most ways and only me could work around all her very very strange habits..believe me,no one could put up with what i have had to deal from this damaged dog. . She,s a character I can tell you. spot the cheeky peaker of a bunny..it didnt get away.. lol Quote Link to post
