terryd 8,477
Sorry to hear that very unfortunate Horrible losing a dog especially one you have had from a pup and it is struck down in its prime when things are going well. But at least it was quick which is some thing and doing some thing it loved . The one I lost went into fits for 24 hours before I had to have him put down. Poor sod was curled up on my bed all night frothing at the mouth vet tried every thing Quote Link to post
Runningdogs3 59
The first time it happens it's beyond horrible: you feel awful, responsible and as if it is somehow your fault. It isn't your fault at all: plenty of pet lurchers have killed themselves running about in the local park: speed kills. Like others have said, it is a sad part of owning a running dog, and your bitch was lucky that it would have been over too quickly for her to realise what was happening. You refer to her as your old bitch: how old was she? I'd sooner my old dogs kill themselves in the field, as long as it was quick, than mouldering away into oblivion and having to eventually get put down. So true. Lost one of mine a few years ago when his back leg snapped in 3 places chasing a football in the garden with the kids. 2 days before that he had been out hunting. It could have happened anywhere. Sorry to hear about your dog. Try and remember her as she was and not how it ended. Quote Link to post
