Tradesman..

Recommended Posts

well this year i will of been in the joinery trade for 18 years! starting my apprentiship at 16 and ill be 34 next month, during this time ive worked all over the uk, shopfitting, doing restaurants out, hotels etc etc, anyway not once have i been asked if i can prove im a time served joiner!

as other guys in the building trade will no doubt know, its on its arse at the moment, my last job away was on kings cross station fitting a restaurant out on the new extension that was getting built, in the canteen there must of been 200 people and if 25 were from this country id be very surprised, they were people just walking around clearly with no idea about the job they had been given, i hate the fact anyone could blag there way onto a site and say there a tradesmen and clearly there not..

we need all the rubbish cscs saftey cards and such which are just a money spinner and a load of crap, maybe its about time we had to prove that were time served tradesmen! maybe do a skills test so we can get plenty of work before all the gobshites that are useless, lag there way into jobs before we have a chance.. i was looking online at jobs the otherday and the rates of pay is what it was about ten years ago.. throuble is theres always someone that works for peanuts that keeps the rates down and its just a big piss take..

i think the days of" you want to get a trade" you wont go wrong with a trade are sadly over!!

well thats my rant over for today..

those £15+ hr are very rare these days on site  its mainly price work/labour only and the prices went really down as the main builders dictate what they are paying for materials no matter who the contractor is  they know someone will do it

funny you should mention those plarstering courses, i put a huge stud wall up in a factory and the guy who come to skim it had just been on a course, he was a car salesmen for most of his life, it was about 6 meters high by 20 long, he came with a few buckets a new cheap float, needless to say it was a shocking job! and you have never seen mess like it.. lol,

he wanted to get insurance work so he could put a high price in for the work and give the homeowner a cash back deal so he gets the work!! thats a true car salesmen right there!!

i sold my painting buisness in 2006 with a full order book and boy am i glad i got out when i did ................

That's not long before my knees started giving out and I had to give up the trowel, the poles were starting to infiltrate the jobs round here and prices were dropping through the floor.. I had no problem with grafting but with my legs the way they were I just couldn't keep earning enough at the rate needed to keep a roof over the head of my family..

The Last One The Woman Wasn't Too Happy When I Commented About Cheap Labour , Pay Peanuts You Get Monkeys , You Get What You Pay For Ect Ect . . In The End I Decided To Tell Her I Wouldnt Be Doing The Job , Luckily At The Time Didnt Need It ,Said Though In The Future Any New Work Id Do Not A Problem ! it's All Down To People Thinking (wrongly) There Saying Money Employing These Cowboys !
