Fox Trapping Help

Recommended Posts

Evening

I am looking for suggestions for alternative bait to be used in a cage trap, I have at the moment in the trap tried rabbits and dog meat (in a sock) of which both were properly secured to the hook that when pulled sets off the trap.

What other kinda bait that's easy to get a hold of could I try?

Thanks again

Stuart

Ah well it's only been 8 days I'll wait it out eh just curious on what you all use, it's the only way to learn tips and tricks as I don't have anybody local to go to.

This is the trap I am using at the moment

Try a chicken mate, or see if any farmers have got a dead lamb knocking around. Badgers around my mates farm have had a few lambs off but there only biteing there heads off and leaveing the rest...the foxes are taking whats left.

Try sticking it out a little longer it can take awhile sometimes. If you do have someone lambing near you may find trapping a little difficult anyway but potenial bait source there

It could be the trap rather than the bait have you covered the floor? Ive had Charlie shy away from traps when they feel the wire under there feet

got one out as well, tried live chicken as bait, nothing, miced whole carcass, nothing, even tried a tin of sardines (opened lol) nothing, yet in the snow i could see tracks around my chicken runs all the time, traps been out a while as well. As you say, busted open road kill bunny looks to be the next course of action.

If you can see tracks it's the trap not the bait.

Not sure about the legalities of using a live chicken though pretty sure that's a no no

Your prob right mate, but she was in a larsen type trap , fed , watered and sheltered, fox couldnt have got to her as her cage ( complete with perch to roost) was seperate completely from the trap, just pushed up against it, he would have had to go up the trap to evn get within a foot of her. But your prob right. she 's back in with the rest of the birds now anyhow, she was the worst layer so its only a matter of time anyhow lol,

cheers
