Thai boxing is the only thing that keeps me sane atm with the kids and work so very worried.

Not sure if they still do it these days but they used to do whats called a Lachman test to see if an acl is torn.....but if your an athlete/sportsman then you,ll want to know the severity of the tear and the only way to do that is an mri.......did it make a kind of popping sound when you did it ?......trouble with torn acl,s even small tears is if left untreated it causes other problems like cartilage injuries where everything else is compensatiing......if its torn bad or off the bone then surgery will be the only answer as the ligament doesnt have its own blood supply so cannot heal on its own.

The repairs they do to them these days though are fantastic....years ago they would just repair the ligament and you,d be left with scar tissue that would always cause problems later on......these days they normally graft other tendons on to repair it....its clever stuff these days !

If you need surgery your looking at probably 4 - 6 months out of action......best of luck anyway.

yeah i heard 3 loud pops as i went down,i'm in for an mri tomorrow but i had an x-ray at A+E and they said nothing was broken and it was likely just a sprain.

they said they'd take ligament from my hamstring,do you know if that has a big effect on the strength of the hamstring?

I have heard cases where the hamstring never regains 100 % of its strength....i forget the long technical names but its not actually the hamstring they take tendon from its the adductors i know they do some kind of folding technique of the tendon itself where it doubles sometimes quadruples in thickness......but no quite often the quad never regains full strength.......i did a medial meniscus about 7 years ago during heavy squatting,a movement id done a thousand times but you never can tell when your luck runs out.....didnt need surgery and a break/therapy did the trick i never had much bother again.

A sprain :D ........does sound like youve torn an acl did it swell straight away ?....hopefully its not of course ;)
