shootlodge 145
If you are willing to pay a price that is fair, & you want quality meat, Pm. Quote Link to post
Caprelous 217
If you are willing to pay a price that is fair, & you want quality meat, Pm. Unfortunately my view is your better giving it away or selling it privately than to Game dealers price hasnt changed in 30 years and barely covers transportation taking it to them. Until they offer more I have no intention of selling any venison that we shoot to them. Just my opinion mind Stu Quote Link to post

Thought the price would drop after christmas but it never.Straight man £1.18 a lb it was £1 a lb 30 year ago the Mrs works in a supermarket on the admin side and informs me on the shelves its £18.60 a kilo which works out at £8.45 lb in my book 18.60 divided by 2.2 I know we all need to make a crust but that takes the biscuit. I have no idea how much the GHEs are making out of it selling it to these outlets but as long as its got its jacket on i can sell it to anyone for what ever i like mates give me £2 a lb for there own consumption or I sometimes give it away to OAP to help them with bills etc but £1.18 Lb and having to drive 30 miles there and 30 miles back to drop it of dosent cover my time or fuel cost . So It goes into a mates chiller locally until i am ready to come home then I pick it up and sort it when I get back, If we have shot a shed full then i leave it to my mate to sell on and the money got goes straight back into equipment and running costs on the scheme we run. GameDealer7412 2
It varies on the species around here but you can get as high as £30 a kilo for loin, if you need any prices pm me Quote Link to post
C Hall 552
The price for roe at the game dealers was £1 a lb over 25 year ago inflation has frozen in time with the price of venison It hardly covers the cost of fuel these days never mind all the other expenses incurred. 1 Quote Link to post
Caprelous 217
I reckon if we all boycotted the GHEs the price would go up either that or they go out of business. As i can sell it to anyone as long as its got its jacket on in relatively small quantities fortunately the GHE no longer can hold be to ransom and I can get what I consider a fair price for it without trailing out dropping it of at my expense . Until they do I shall continue operating as stated. Regards Stu Quote Link to post

I was just wondering if any one could help us with a good supply of Venison? Hal, Whole or Quarters? We're based in the North West. Cheers James James I will put this quite simply, until game dealers pay a fair price to trained hunters, That is those certified by law to sign off with the correct documentation in accordance with the FSA many of us arnt prepared to deal with them. We can deal direct legally supplying hotels and other sources with the carcass as long as it is in its own skin. So if you wish to trade fine we will listen but prices paid need to cover our costs. sussex 5,777
The 60 mile round trip is the big loss ,put fuel & time in the equation and its a non runner,i see why you do what you do, i dont have that problem because my guy picks up,i originally built my coldroom to cut out the need to get them in to the dealer asap & having to take bad money for them,(the dealer at the time wanted to pay 70p lb)espiecally during the warm months of the fallow season.Whilst £1.20 lb is not the real worth of venison i could'nt afford the time to run it about .With the amount of people selling around here you would have to do some serious milage to sell it privately. Spot on as I said unless you have at least 3 to go it barely covers your time and fuel, its a non goer. Selling it or giving it to locals is a much more sensible option. if GHE paid a decent price linked with inflation then it may be worth considering. The other thing to consider is with me selling or giving it away what the GHE in are effect doing loosing potential custom both on buying in and also selling out but they dont seem to be able to see that. They probably will when its to late and find they dont have game to supply though but hey ho its their choice. Quote Link to post
