Lab 10,979
this is an interesting thread for me as i live in a built up estate and the attack shown on this thread may not be commonplace but it aint rare either. ive had this type of thing happen a couple of times to me. its a serious problem and nothing new. i'm in a lucky position that one of my dogs is a big brute of a thing that looks like a poodle in need of a haircut. my kids have been instructed not to walk a terrier without the big dog. my big dog is without a doubt as bad if not worse than most of these little bull crosses/staffs that are getting a bad name due to there idiot owners. (again nothing new. as bull terriers and bad uns go hand in hand. BULLS EYE. BILL SYKES. need i say more. murderous dog and murderer for an owner). typecast is the word i'm looking for. and give a dog a bad name as the saying goes . anyway as i was saying. there is a flipside to any coin and i know only to well that my dog has been blamed for attacking a dog. this is despite him being on a lead with a responsable owner (i am ) and shouting numerous warnings. before the stupid owner laughingly shouting back its ok mines friendly . as her large dog careers into mine after losing interest in her tenny ball catapult. you could have got very similar pics but in reverse. now heres the thing. if you have a strong sort of dog. any breed. how do you control other folks dogs. to protect the reputation of you own dogs rep. and your own for that matter. as the blame will always fall on the one that does the damage rightly or wrongly. and as a last observation. ive had my eyes opened as to so called dog folks ways of seperateing dogs . from smashing back legs. to the last pic. gently hold your dog by the neck and pinch its ear . as for the rasist stuff. not for me Muzzle your dog if your worried about it biting dogs. To be fair if you have an aggressive dog and its on a lead and another dog runs up to it, whether it wants to play or not if it takes a bite then its the other owners fault for having an out of control dog... Agree with the muzzle thing Lab but disagree with a dog being out of control just because it runs up to another, its natural for a dog to great another and have a sniff, I wouldnt expect my springer to have a chunk taken out of it just with a normal dog greeting, admittedly if im 100 yards away and dont have the dog under control thats another matter, but just walking my dog in the park I wouldnt accept another dogs being aggressive to mine as we pass on the path. Passing any dog i keep my dogs in at heel. I'd like to think i have some kind of understanding on dog behaviour so if i see a little old lady with a yorkie i might act different if i see a man with a staffie. Nothing against the breed by that just looking at how situations might arise and try and stop them before the flare up. You can usually tell by the dog owners response of meeting another dog whether they are aggressive or not...

scothunter 12,609
agree with you seeker.BUT only if the owner can recall his dog.i have a similar problem, and i do realise a dogs first instinct is to run up to another dog.but if im in that situation i shout out can you put your dog on lead.I find in most cases with pet owners they cant.something which really pisses me off.
gnasher16 30,118
I think it might of been Wilf who said it about 5 or 6 pages back.......some dogs are just not suited to being kept as pet dogs in densely populated areas......you cant blame everyone and everything around you if YOU choose the wrong breed of dog for your situation ! If a big strong aggressive man with a short fuse hangs about in pubs full of gobby teenagers who is to blame if the shit hits the fan.........he didnt have to be there !

The Seeker 3,048
agree with you seeker.BUT only if the owner can recall his dog.i have a similar problem, and i do realise a dogs first instinct is to run up to another dog.but if im in that situation i shout out can you put your dog on lead.I find in most cases with pet owners they cant.something which really pisses me off. Yes mate agreed, if owners and I don't just mean working dogs but owners of ANY dog gave the basic training to stop and recall most of these problems would never happen, my springer will stop on a sixpence with one peep of the whistle or shout and recalls to heel instantly as soon as told. Now I know this isnt anything new to most lads on here as we all (or we should) understand that basic discipline is required to work any dog of any breed. What astounds me is when someone sees me recall my dog or stop it they think its some mystical training that has taken place and ask me how I did it. I feel like replying "I put some time into it and care about my dog not like that f*cking over fed fat barrel of shite you have on a lead dragging you all over the feckin park" but Im far too polite for that What I will not accept now under any circumstances is aggression to my dog, if your dog is aggressive to other dogs keep it on the lead, if it cant even pass another dog without wanting to rip into it put a muzzle on it. Simple.

BIG G wheton machine 1,594
intresing thread maybe both parties were at fault for having both dogs of the lead and its just a genuine accident. but as for everybody who hunts and is slating the bull for doing what its been bred to do for hundreds of yrs is a joke. why do you think its such a popular cross for a lurcher? cos its good at the job, if the paki has any sense he will pass the dog onto somebody who will work it and understand the breed better. i dont agree with dog fighting but im not gona criticise the breed or people that do as they have contributed a lot to hunting dog breeds for many yrs by testing theyre dogs

jessdale 416
What i find staggering in this thread is the amount of hard men that are members of this forum. The amount of "i would do this, i would do that" makes me wonder how any crimes are committed in this country at all because if someone would kill someone over a dog surely they would not let anyone live over a mugging, robbery, house breaking etc etc.
