I posted on here last year when a staffy had hold of my spaniel pup by the throat.

I always carry a very sharp pocket knife when I walk the dog now, if it happens again I will make sure the attacking dog is dealt with. I'm not going through that shit again having my dog suffer because some f*ck wit has an aggresive dog they can't control.

You have a good knowledge of bull breeds of decent breeding mate, in your opinion which is it, blood or brains?

You old girl was a very friendly animal, good round your dogs and strangers but with the right buttons pressed, what would she have been capable of?

No dog is " totally" safe

IMHO owning any type of decent bull breed is like owning a gun, only those with a some knowledge of what they are doing should be allowed to do it.

But, government ban the work that the dogs were intended for and they fall into the hands of idiots.......a dog of this type with no outlet for its nature in the hands of a fool is a bad combination to me

It's certainly true that some of these dogs don't belong in public, they were never meant to be paraded around parks in the first place.....their kennel and their work is the only place for some dogs

There is a family just been housed at the end of my street, scumbags moved on from another place....they have the obligatory big American bulldog......it's a f***ing machine but they allow the little kids to walk it about !!

If this dog decided to turn for any reason there is not much an adult could do, never mind a child.......buffoons, absolute buffoons !

That's a bit much isn't it? Sounds like a newspaper headline "owning a bull breed is like owning a gun". People need to stop blaming breeds when any decent dog owner can see it's always down to the owner. Just because small men want a hard looking dog to hide behind doesn't mean it's the dogs fault.

Also, there is nothing wrong with letting kids around a dog of any size, what gives you such opinions that you are so judgmental of breeds instead of the scum on the other end of the lead where the blame really lies? Please don't say that I 'clearly don't know what a true gamebred dog acts like' etc I am being serious.

i'm gonna disagree with you fella. children should only be around (any dog) under supervison. a strong dog like a bull breed need responsible owners. and a responsable owner wouldnt let a child walk them.

I agree totally, No Dog is 100% safe.......No matter what everyone thinks of their own one.

I also strongly agree that children should not be left un supervised.

They can be 'unpredictable'...

That's the kids as well as the dogs.

As for letting a kid 'walk' a big hound by themselves is rediculous!

I don't think it's a bit strong because its my opinion, but I will concede that all you say holds true if you believe in " nurture" over " nature".......I don't and I believe that , however bred out it may be, it is in these type of dogs very DNA to do serious damage to stuff.....you just need to press the right buttons.

If you don't have a healthy respect for this type of animal and regard them as just another everyday pet then I would say you probably shouldn't own one

Not saying I'm right or your wrong, just my opinion

Fair enough, I am definitely in the nurture and rehabilitation set of beliefs. My current and last dogs have both been rescue dogs kept by total assholes who shouldn't have any. My last dog was a badly socialised rottweiler that was kept in a yard, covered in sores and was neurotic but we took him on and he turned in to a great and very soft dog. I couldn't trust him 100% because I am not daft, but the only issues he had were inflicted on him and he got over everything except he would flinch when strangers moved a hand towards him too fast. My current dog is a staffy, kept indoors on a treadmill by a welll known chavvy scum family who had him on a treadmill to look hard, but the warden didn' take him back to them after his 5th escape and we have him. He is completely trustworthy and I have no fears with him off lead around any dogs or children and is the daftest bugger of a dog I have known. So just these two examples go against everything I have ever read in a newspaper and I have seen many pits that were bred from workers that were family pets and trustworthy too, even a retired worker that could be trusted with children...not other dogs obviously.

Fair one, might have got carried away in my post! But............my staff is the most dog safe dog I have ever had. She has been attacked herself, twice by other breeds and did not even react. I am just saying that it is all too easy to label all staffs as aggressive when it is common sense that if a dog is encouraged to be aggressive, it will exhibit aggressive behaviour and that those who want to have the hardman image are, unfortunately attracted to bull breeds. Anyway I am just saying that staffs can be just as trustworthy as any other dog and rather than detract from the real message of what I am trying to get accross i will finish with one thing.......I am so glad that the cavy is recovering and the people who instigated this need to be caught and punished. Lets not disagree, I think that we are probably all united in our loathing of these people and wish the cavy a speedy recovery.

[/quote She would of been capable of causing serious damage but then so would my lurchers and so would the collie i had as a kid if hed of grabbed a little dog like that and he was the biggest c..t going for fighting if he couldnt f**k it hed fight it but if that had of been a collie or lab or lurcher ragging that spanial nobody would have been interested.
