They used to say don't feed anything at all if they have vomiting/diarrhoea - now they think that a light diet of chicken and some boiled rice is good to make sure the dog gets some nutrients, while giving the gut chance to settle. To be honest, if mine are upset, they often choose not to eat anyway - but I offer and see.

My dad used to swear by a starve day. I don't know why. He would starve himself, the dogs and his canaries every Sunday.

I don't know why except it was just how he was brought up. I don't do it. I feed twice a day most days.

I can see the logic - wild dogs don't always eat everyday - and I think a lot of carnivores are historically designed to eat a large meal every so often rather than a normal sized meal regularly. But that isn't how they are kept now, so I suppose things change and adapt.

(Not sure about your Dad though Gaz - what happened to having a proper roast on a sunday :icon_eek: ! )

starve days where trialled on captive wolves, and were found to have a detrimental effect,as for detox, whether human or animal we have internal organs that deal with that better than any gimmicky potions, dont believe the hype,it's all about lining someone else's pockets, but if you ever fancy a hosepipe and 5 gallons of strong coffee pumped up your back door, dont let me put you off atb

My dad amd the old boys round were am from used them but didn't starve him self lol but he said it use to keep them keen for the game

keeping them game and starving them is 2 different things but thats jmho i thought if you feed them it gives them energy to run all night so if there starved where does the energy come from or is it desperation for the next meal
