Rabbiting man 1,192
I thought if you feed your dog right there no need to add more vitomins, but I do add cod liver oil . Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I use cod liver oil 3-4 times a week. If the dogs had alot of graft I will put a spoon of keepers mix in the feed. Don't know if it helps or not but can't do any harm. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
suppliments would only be needed if the diet was lacking or the dog needed extra due to a medical condition that didnt allow it to get the amount it needed from its food alone. much the same with humans Quote Link to post

But cod liver oil is cod liver oil. It gives a good shine to coat and helps joints I believe. As well as making biscuits more palatable if not feeding meat that day. Quote Link to post

Llywelyn the last 31
Some of the best feeds are those designed for greyhounds . gain , red mills , Australian formula . You don't need to feed the high protein unless they are being heavily worked . A dog that lamps regularly can be fed the 28% , also good for broods . they can then be fed 20% when they are not working or training . The best food I think though is meat , either mixed with good quality biscuit , or a mix of veg . Oil such as olive or just a dollop of butter helps for energy . Dogs get most of their energy from fats , they don't utilise carbohydrates or sugars like we do . If a lot of meat is fed then a multi vit would be a good idea to balance the shortfall in vits and minerals . Frozen meat does impact on certain vits such as vit e . I think the greyhound trainers really understand how to get a dog ready . A trainer I know feeds a mix of horse , fish , pasta rice etc with lard or some fat . His dogs look great , and they perform . Lurchers are slightly different , but after hard work they need to repair their muscles , and protein is the basis for this . None better than raw flesh . The way greyhounds are fed is almost a science . in essence you get out what you put in . 1 Quote Link to post
