BORDERSCOT 3,816
Has anyone ran or runs this X at the moment - 3/4 collie 1/4 greyhound...? I have ran collies on the lamp successfully in the past on rabbits and foxes and have hunted collies daytime to foxes too...be good to get your thoughts on this x as a lamping, ferreting and daytime hunting dog...any pics would be a bonus and appreciated... Thanks Colin. Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
Yes i know someone who is bringing one on at the minute. Not my sort of dog but he catches plenty with it for a young dog so it must have something about it. Ive only been out with it twice and its a very clingy sensitive animal. But very tough and has stamina to burn. It does pick and choose its runs though and its very hyper active. I should have a suitable pic somewhere. Atb Quote Link to post

s.e.s.k.u 1,893
Not my dog but an old guy i know has this very cross beardie x grey (hancock bred) sire put over a beardie collie dam. next time i see him I'll ask if i can get a pic. He uses him as a ferreting / mooching dog i havent seen the dog work but he seems happy enough . Got a really thick coat and surprisingly racey under all the hair . Quote Link to post

Thanks Colin. Hi,..I have been out with a few of this breeding,..and although they had merit,..I found when used localy,.they were not suitable for the task in hand, at that point in time.. Nice animals though,.very responsive, easy to school and great fun to be with.. My good friend DC has a real powerful 3/4 Kelpie x Greyhound, and is extremely impressed with the dog's attitude... To produce such a rarity, requires some degree of faith in the end product, and in my opinion,..that particular hybridisation was a success. As a Moucher, he created what he required.. who can really ask for more Edited March 17, 2013 by CHALKWARREN 2 Quote Link to post

FUJI 17,327
My mutt is all over this forum lol..not quite a reverse 3/4 but his dam was a full Collie and his sire was just a Lurcher who's father itself was a Lurcher x Collie...this dog has its purposes, very good lamp dog, works with the ferrets great, hunts like a spaniel in the day but not an inkling of it when lamping,NEVER picks and chooses his runs, very athletic dog, obedient and will graft and graft and keep on grafting..handy dog on bigger beasties too, caught more during the day then all my others dogs put together ...just always seems in the right place at the right time...no he would never catch on big land but I never got him for that..he's just a lovely dog to have at heel, always wants to please you...ugly as sin but hey ho I suppose you can't have your cake and eat it?... 17 Quote Link to post

forest of dean redneck 11,609
There was pic of a nice looking one in the cmw, around the time the ban came in,about same build as above dog but bit of long hair on its tail. Quote Link to post
mighty celt 996
wouldnt be my choice for a lamping dog seen first cross collie/greys with no gears,so i couldnt see them being anywhere near quick enough apart from the odd 1 or 2,but as a mooching dog, ferreting dog it would be ideal for the job. 1 Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
He put abit game away fuji Cheers fella...aye he's put a few odds and sods to bed these past few seasons...he will always keep you well fed lol...not everyone's cup of tea for sure but he's my second one of this type and the other wasnt what I would call useless either?...I'm quite surprised that in today's current climate with the hunting legislation etc that more people ain't got them to be honest but i don't mind being the guinea pig and trying them out haha..gotta agree Mighty Celt they wouldnt be the fastest of mutts but trust me in woodland etc where fallen trees etc abide and on fell type land they will and do run where many dogs wouldn't/couldn't ...a bit like Marmite in that you either love em or loathe them lol.. 10 Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
Fuji you sell the don dog short in the looks dept,he's a fine animal imo. strong, durable and obviously quick enough for his job. I would imagine he would throw awesome pot fillers put to a good working whippet. 1 Quote Link to post
