Get my first ferret tomorrow

Recommended Posts

It's been a long time coming as I decided I wanted to get ferrets at the end of last year, but tomorrow I pick up the first of my ferrets. :good:

I am off after work to see stubby and collect either a silver or polecat jill depending on which takes my fancy. and next week someone else will drop off another hob and jill for me.

(There will be another ferret to keep it company until the two others arrive next week, but this one is for Ferret15, she will collect it the next w/end)

The court is almost finished, obviously it will be an ongoing evolving project as I learn what ferrets like and dislike. But I hope that what I have done so far is suitable for them.

There are pipes, ladders, buckets, balls on string, hammocks, ramps, treat balls, shelves, plant pots with more to come.

Think they should be happy, but I expect it will be a steep learning curve. All I do know is to make sure I feed them good healthy food, for example, dried ferret biscuits with bread and milk as a treat once a day.

Kidding... I just wanted to D.S. to spit his tea all over his monitor! :haha:

Looking from the outside, looks a bit like a zoo enclosure in real life. Half expect to see a family of ring tailed lemurs leaping around like lunatics:

Just thought I would show you what it looked like back in April.

And yes, I am like a kid in a sweetshop! Wife is going to drop my daughter off at work tomorrow so she can come with me and help me choose.

Ok, before I even started work...

Thanks, pleased with it myself as well!

Under the straw is 6 inches of concrete then sand and hardcore. Thought it would make cleaning easier.

been watching this court coming nicely for a while now and i know how much hard work you have put into well done it looks fantastic . have you put wire mesh on the ladders as i think small ferrets will have a job climbing them otherwise , also where you got the blue box i would have put a full size cage ready for next season when you have to separate the hobs and jills . all the best Ade

Thanks,

I have (now) put wire mesh on the ladders to help the littleuns climb them.

Re the seperate cage, I have a four-storey hutch with interconnecting ramps ready for the lad. It is about 7 feet high, has four levels, each with it's own door. If I need to seperate the hob (as he will be snipped) he can go in there and still live in spacious luxury.
