johnny boy68 11,726
Perhaps if he told us what he feeds the dog, how much graft, free running etc he does with the dog then he'd get better answers. Quote Link to post

I just questioned his timing..... Asking how to get a dog running fit at the end of the season strikes me odd and was worth the query, don't you think? 1 Quote Link to post

Dan Newcombe 58
Too much protein in a diet and you end up with a very hard muscled dog but one that has little fat because the energy is used building muscle. My gundogs were on a high protein diet and they were fit as hell but no fat at all so i changed to a higher carbohydrate diet and they have improved no end. Quote Link to post

I think a balanced diet is the answer and feeding to the work load your giving them. I like 28% protein meal, meat and brown bread. Add veg etc but cut the protein and bulk back in the summer if they ain't out much. No point in having a dog bursting with energy and no release. Quote Link to post

Daytimeonly 91
its an athlete not a body builder, keep it fit and keep its feet good, and you will be ok. 1 Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
We feed our dogs fairly well I guess and we start roadin them pretty much as soon as they will hop in the back of the truck. If they can load up they can go roading as far as we are concerned. It works for us. Quote Link to post
