rob284 1,682
Why? Thought i heard it all. All you really do with a running dog is run it. And it will slowly grow into its natural build. Any bigger is excess weight imo. 5 Quote Link to post

It's not so long ago that weight training was frowned upon as it was wrongly thought it would make a person muscle bound, most if not all,pro sports people do some form of resistance training these days to gain an advantage, using road walking, and some trotting alongside the bike benefits the running dogs in much the same way,all that twisting and turning puts a real strain on a dogs body, and a good quality layer of well toned muscle is one if not the only defence against some serious injuries,I know I would much rather put the hard work into getting a dog fit, than to wait for weeks on end for an avoidable injury to heal, any well worked dog will pick up an injury of some sort sooner or later, but if they are fit there is a good chance it wont be as bad as it could have been 1 Quote Link to post

Guest thebigdog
a good meat based diet get it walking on the roads for a couple of weeks, then get it trotting along side a bike. start with short distances, a mile or less, 2/3 times a week for a couple of weeks then up it to two miles for couple weeks and so on. dont know what age the dog is, but if its less than a year, do no road work, let it be a pup Quote Link to post
